This is really happening. Pence was going to tell his wife who he really was. Pence was all nerves, he was a quiet man. He hid several secrets in his sleeve. He was careful and unsure. He kept to himself. Trump was the only person that had ever seen him, all of him, all of his secrets and desires. He was himself around Trump, he surrendered himself to him. He could let go of all the things that tethered him. He didn't want to lose that. It was the only precious thing he had ever had and he held it so closely to his heart.
He drove home as normal, he entered the house as usual. He said those empty loving nothings to his wife as he always did. His wife was in the kitchen preparing dinner as she always did. It was only her and him their children were all moved out and living their own lives somewhere out there. Pence was finally going to do the same. He had never broken free from the life he was assigned from birth. He had never chose his own path, or spoke a single thought from his mind. And now he was about to speak from his heart.
He had never truly loved his wife. He had never truly loved anyone before Trump. Donald was the only one who understood him, who listened to him. Pence told him to divorce his wife and he did. He admired Trumps confidence, he was always so sure of everything. Pence searched deep within himself to find a confidence that he had never known. He delved so deep but he saw nothing. He was hollow, empty, abandoned, and alone. How? He thought, how can this be? An empty man walking.
He was a coward in the face of his dreams. They were so close, just an inch away. All he had to do was say it, just say the words and it will all be done. But time passed quickly. "I will tell her now" he thought as he sat across from his wife at the table.
His wife blabbed on while shoving food in her mouth. She talked about her new online cooking class and her breathing exercises and her spam emails. Through her rambles he couldn't find anywhere to break her words and speak his mind. He waited. Then he waited some more. There was never a chance to speak. If he was going to do it he had to do it then.
He took a breath, he was truly about to tell her.
      And then he didn't.
He couldn't bring himself to do it.
