The Kweku Flick Experience

In the second year of my secondary education, I came home for the Christmas holidays. I was expected to ride straight home but I decided to take a little detour and visit Boss. Boss was my IT tutor back in JHS and was also the CEO of BKC PLUS, a management firm for artistes. Busy as he is, it is virtually impossible to pin Boss down at one particular location much less to talk of visiting him. So the element of surprise was all I had left and to my advantage did I use it!

I followed Boss' work, or rather his artistes, their tracks, shows and what have you. They were all great, I'd say and Boss did a fine job managing them. However, his was a small managing firm that he'd let you go if you came into the spotlight enough to be recognized and approached by a record label. As of the time of my visit, I knew that he'd signed off almost all of his clients and was looking forward to bringing out a new and fresh face. Little did I know that this one would be a piece of hot cake!

I arrived at Boss place in the morning and after knocking for quite a time, I turned to leave thinking he may have travelled when the door opened to a sleep walking man. Smilingly, I pushed him back inside and settled down. He went to wash his face and came back to where I was seated going through his laptop. "Oh it's you", he said amusingly. "Yep", I replied. After the small talk about school, he brought up the subject of his 'new and fresh face'. "He goes by Kweku Flick and I really think he's got something. We're releasing his first track titled 'Awake' together with the visuals today at noon. Watch and tell me what you think", he explained. "But he sounds just like Kwesi Arthur, although I think he's got something as you said", I passed after enjoying a three-minute long video of Kweku Flick's 'Awake'.

The rest, they say, is history? Of course. 'Awake' became a hit and dominated the streets, at least of Kumasi, until Flick dropped the banger dubbed 'Money'. His fame needn't be told and before long, he was the most wanted young artiste of Ghana. Boss had his phone ringing non-stop with demands for Kweku Flick on many programs. Recently, I had the pleasure of watching him perform at the Free SHS Association launch at the Rattray Park. As I stood, a girl walking behind me said to her friend, "isn't he so young and energetic? I think he's gonna go far". I smiled at that and remembered the day when I agreed with Boss that this kid's got something.

Before he left the stage at Rattray Park, he announced that he had another street anthem soon to be released. He explained that as a sequel to his previous track, 'Money', he had named this one 'ByeBye'. The track speaks of bidding farewell to negativity, setbacks, failures, poverty and people who would love to see you fail. Another street anthem it was! The King of Melodies, Kweku Flick and his management team are not only coming your way with amazing visuals for 'ByeBye' but they've got more things up their sleeve. Are you ready for them?!
