"Bitch, take that!" someone yelled as a paper aeroplane whizzed past Natalie Wood's ear. She looked up from where she had been re-reading The Fault In Our Stars for the tenth time, oblivious to what was going on around her, and scanned her surroundings.
It was noisy and chaotic, stationery and worksheets folded into paper aeroplanes flying everywhere, as the screams and yells of the students filled the classroom.
The class was waiting for their English teacher, Mrs Hart, to enter the classroom. As she was almost always on time for her lessons, it was very unlike her to be late for her lessons, resulting in nearly every student capitalising on the extra time.
"Sorry I'm late- WHAT IS GOING ON INSIDE HERE?!" Natalie looked up to see Mrs Hart at the door. Following her glare, Natalie saw her classmates frozen in place, some standing on desks, some openly texting or snapping pictures. Food wrappers and random papers were littered all over the floor.
Natalie grinned to herself. This was going to be good.
"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ALL DOING? IS THIS HOW YOU SET AN EXAMPLE FOR OUR NEW STUDENT?" Mrs Hart yelled. For the first time, Natalie noticed a tall boy hanging awkwardly behind her. He had short, dark brown hair and deep blue eyes, a combination she found made him look very handsome.
The whole class, if possible, had become even more silent as they all sized up the new student.
"This is Austin Cole, and he will be in our class for this year," Mrs Hart said, appearing to have calmed herself down. "Now, before we begin our lessons, clean up this mess," she said, gesturing at the classroom and students.
Austin shifted his feet uncomfortably as he watched the cleaning go on, students muttering about how unfair it was to make them clean up when there was a janitor around. Noticing his discomfort, Mrs Hart added, "Austin, you can sit next to Natalie- the girl by the window."
Austin nodded and walked over to Natalie, who looked up from her book to wave shyly at him. He returned her greeting with a smile as he unpacked the contents of his bag. Sitting at his seat, he noticed the title of her book.
"You read The Fault In Our Stars too?"
That was the only sentence it took to form an instant bond between them. Within seconds, they had launched into an instant discussion about whether the film was better than the book (they both agreed the book was better) and what the most heartbreaking scene was.
As they talked, a smile slipped over Austin's face, matching the broad grin already worn by Natalie. He already knew that the girl sitting beside him was special. What he didn't know was what awaited them in the future.
And perhaps it was better that it stayed that way.
A/N: Hey guys! Here's the prologue of Glass Hearts :) I had an idea at two in the morning on one of my many sleepless nights and after a couple days, it came to fruition here on Wattpad! I hope you enjoyed it, and if you did, remember to vote, comment and follow!
