It was 6 am when the Morrins family peeped into their new home.

The couple had with them little Cherry, born five years ago, in France.

The door opened and a path marked the way for them, showing an ancient house at the end of the street, on the top of the hill.

Everything around was dry, arid, the predominant color was the brown of the earth.

The first rays of dawn illuminated the highest windows of that villa.

As soon as Peter and Kirsten got out of the car, Cherry, who had rested all the way, opened her eyes.

"Coucou," her mother said, and a smile came from Cherry's lips.

She used to play this game with her, and the more Cherry grew, the more she enjoyed it.

As Peter picked up the bags, Kirsten set the baby down on the floor.

Cherry looked up to look at her mother's face, and gave one of those smiles of hers that melted everyone's hearts.

Cherry liked the place, however dry and still without green.

Peter hugged his wife from behind, went to her ear and finally promised her that the one in front of them would be their lair of happiness; and so, as Kirsten turned to kiss the man, a figure inside the house pulled back the curtains and, with a bitter look, looked out the attic window.

Furious, he closed the curtains and walked away from there, leaving the window open and dark and cold behind him.
