Chapter 1: Afraid of Change"Kyoya!" The call of his name made the raven haired boy look up from his laptop. Tamaki, his blond (in both senses) friend, pouted as Kyoya gave him a look that said, 'I'm busy.'
"Kyoya," he whined again, "tell me what you're looking at!" He leaned on his tiptoes, attempting to catch a glimpse of what exactly Kyoya was looking at.
"Tamaki, why do you care?" Kyoya asked in an irritated tone.
"Because I know that you're looking at the profile for that new student in Haruhi's class!" The blond crossed his arms, trying to look smart for once when all he really did was state the obvious. Kyoya sighed, pushing his glasses up before standing up.
"Tamaki, you are an idiot," he muttered, earning a hurt look and a dramatic cry. Tamaki followed Kyoya, who had stored away his laptop in its carrying case.
"So," Tamaki said once he had caught up with his friend, "what's this new student's name?"
"Dorian, Dorian Dawnfield," Kyoya answered, smirking slightly as he headed towards Music Room 3.
~Earlier That Day~
"Alright class, we have a new foreign exchange student that will be attending our wonderful school this year. Go easy on the boy," the teacher smiled and stood aside from the doorway. The new student stood there with his hands in his pockets, big blue eyes blinking at the room full of fresh and new faces. In the back of the classroom, Haruhi, Hikaru, and Kaoru sat forward simultaneously.
"Wow, I can't believe we have a new student here," said Haruhi absently, earning a bored look from the twins. Only Haruhi would find something so mundane interesting.
"I don't see how it's so unbelievable..." commented Hikaru. Kaoru gave him a look of annoyance.
"Brother, be nice," Kaoru smacked Hikaru's shoulder. Hikaru was about to make a witty, sarcastic comeback when a swirl of color and soft, exotic smells assaulted his senses. He glanced over at the usually unoccupied window seat beside him to find the new student sitting there.
Short, curly brown hair framed an angled face with cheekbones that could cut fabric if they tried. Large, blue eyes sat like inlaid glass in a porcelain mosaic that resembled soft cream in color. His head was resting in his palm, eyes fixated on the cherry blossoms in full bloom in the commons below.
"Hikaru?" A voice awoke him from his trance. Haruhi sighed and stood, walking over to the new student. Hikaru blinked once, twice, three times before he looked over at Kaoru. His mouth hung open in shock at the sudden intrusion that he didn't even know was an intrusion, his mouth growing dry and his palms growing wet.
"Kaoru, was I staring?" Hikaru asked softly. Kaoru nodded with a slight tilt of his head, hiding a small smile.
"Don't worry brother, so was I," he replied. Meanwhile, Haruhi stood beside the student with a smile on her face. She moved forward and politely tapped on the boy's shoulder.
"Ah... hello there," she said in a soft voice, her smile welcoming as the student turned his attention to her. He smiled in return, blinking in a confused manner.
"Good day, my dear," he said in a soft baritone voice. It was quite obvious to everyone that he was a soft spoken young man. He bit his lip nervously when he noticed the amount of people beginning to stare at him from around the room. Haruhi gave a short laugh as she extended her hand towards him.
"My name is Haruhi Fujioka. What's yours?" The twins had suddenly taken interest in the interaction, the butterflies in Hikaru's stomach suddenly growing into fiery hot knots of jealousy. Kaoru, on the other hand, was fixated on the boy himself, a blush rising to his cheeks when their eyes met for a fraction of a moment.
