It's been a month since the Byers' moved away. Hawkins has been really boring without them... without Jonathan. Delilah has mostly been hanging out with Nancy, but sometimes she hangs out with Steve and Robin. They're pretty fun to be around. She's become closer with her brother's friends as well. Dustin even gifted her a walkie-talkie so they could all stay in touch all the time.
Next year is Delilah's junior year, but she's looking into colleges already. She and Jonathan always talked about applying to NYU together, since it's their dream school. The girl called their office and scheduled a campus tour. She booked a flight out to New York right away, barely even being able to contain her excitement. She's looking forward to being a small-town girl exploring the Big Apple. However, she's flying to California first to visit Jonathan and then is catching a flight to NYC from there.
*10 minutes before boarding time*
"You have everything?" Jonathan asks.
"Yup," his girlfriend replies.
"Okay, good. I don't want you to get there and realize you forgot your wallet or something," the boy says, making Delilah laugh.
He sighs and wraps his arms around the girl's waist. "I still can't believe you're going without me."
"Don't be jealous," Delilah jokes while placing her hands on his chest. "I wish you could come with me, but I know your mom needs you here right now."
Jonathan just looks down, frowning. He would've loved to take a trip to New York with his girlfriend. "Hey," the girl utters, lifting his chin with her pointer finger. "I'll be fine on my own... Plus, I have superpowers. What's the worst that could happen?"
The boy laughs a little and responds, "I guess you're right."
"I always am," Delilah cockily replies before kissing him. The couple holds onto each other, wanting to be in one another's embrace for as long as possible until the door opens for boarding.
Jonathan lets go of his girlfriend to cup her face with his hands. He gives her a passionate kiss, which she happily reciprocates.
"Just come back to me," he whispers dreamily as he gazes into the girl's eyes with his enamored ones.
"Always," Delilah responds before pulling away. She begins to saunter away before turning over her shoulder and calling out, "I love you."
"I love you," Jonathan returns as Delilah walks through the door to board the plane. A soft smile lingers on his face as he turns to walk away. "I love you." He still can't believe he's the one who gets to hear those words from her. He wants to hear her say that to him for the rest of his life.
