It's been a month since the Byers moved away. Hawkins has been really boring without them... without Jonathan. I've mostly been hanging out with Nancy, but sometimes I hang out with Steve and Robin. They're pretty fun to be around. I've become closer with my brother's friends as well. Dustin even gifted me a walkie talkie so we could all stay in touch all the time.
I also made an unexpected friend. Ever since the battle of Starcourt, Billy has been trying to clean up his act and seek redemption. He was pretty thankful for me saving him, claiming that I gave him another chance at life.
I'm going to be a senior next year, so I'm looking into colleges already. Jonathan and I always talked about applying to NYU together, since its our dream school. I called their office and scheduled a campus tour. I booked a flight out to New York right away, I couldn't contain my excitement. I was going to be a small town girl exploring the Big Apple. I made sure to get a flight that departs from Jonathan's city, so I could go see him before heading to NYC.
10 minutes before boarding time
"You have everything?" Jonathan asked.
"Yup," I reply.
"Okay good. I don't want you to get there and realize you forgot your wallet or something," he says, making me laugh.
He sighs and wraps his arms around my waist. "I still can't believe you're going without me."
"Don't be jealous," I joke while placing my hands on his chest. "I wish you could come with me, but I know your mom needs you here right now."
He just looks down frowning.
"Hey," I utter, lifting his chin with my finger. "I'll be fine on my own... Plus, I have superpowers. What's the worst that could happen?"
He laughs a little and responds, "I guess you're right."
"I always am," I cockily reply before kissing him. We hold on to each other until the door opens for boarding.
Jonathan lets go of me to cup my face in his hands. He gives me a passionate kiss, which I happily reciprocate.
"Just come back to me," he whispers dreamily.
"Always," I respond before pulling away. "I love you."
"I love you," he says back as I walk through the door to board the plane.
A few hours later
There are only six other passengers on this flight, which is kind of strange. Who wouldn't want to go to New York in the fall? "Almost there," I think to myself. I sit back in my seat and try to relax. I tilt my head to my left and notice a man's lips moving as he's reading a newspaper. He must be one of those people who likes to read aloud. He turns his head back and looks right at me and turns back around when he sees me looking. That's weird.
A flight attendant walks down the aisle and side-eyes me as she passes by. She tried to be inconspicuous but I caught it. I look around the cabin and it seems like everyone keeps sneaking peeks at me. I slump down in the seat, feeling uncomfortable all of a sudden. I try to ignore all the peering eyes when suddenly someone places a heavy hand on my shoulder.
"Excuse me, ma'am."
I look up at the man, then glance behind him and see all the passengers and flight attendants standing. I'm surrounded.
"What's going on?" I question as I rise up to get out of my seat but someone behind me pushes me back down.
My eyes dart across everyone in the room, who were all armed. What the hell is this?
