AFTER successfully destroying Voldermorts Horcrux, and tricking everyone into thinking he is dead. Regulus managed to escape, and in his altered state of mind apparates to a small town in California my mistake.
THERE he begins to start a life where no one knows who he is. Now going by the name Regulus Smith (or otherwise known as Reggie Smith), he rents out an apartment with help from a young woman named, Elodie Rothchild, who is studying to become a nurse.
THEY form an unlikely friendship that eventually spirals into more as Regulus is escaping his past and Elodie is looking towards her future.

AUTHORS NOTE: This is an Alternative Universe where Regulus actually lived because I think he deserved a happy life. So this is my take on what could have happened if he lived.
Because if I'm being honest Regulus would have thrived if he lived away from his family and everyone who influenced him.
