Rhian POV:

Today is a nice sunny day, with few clouds in the sky, the light transforming my brown skin into gold. I was walking to my favorite cafe, The Secret Garden, to go see my friends/crushes Julian and Asra. We had been inseparable best friends ever since I moved to Vesuvia ten years ago.

I was a little nervous because they had called me to the cafe because they said that they had something important to share. I knew that they had been dating for a few years so I never mentioned my feelings for them, I didn’t want to make it awkward. But I couldn’t help it when I decided to dress up a little before I went to see them. What can I say, I’m a girl who likes style. I chose a red, gold, and blue African style dress that complimented my curves, but wasn’t inappropriate for a casual meeting. The boys knew how I liked to dress so it shouldn’t be a surprise to them.

When I got to the cafe, I felt multiple pairs of eyes on me but the only ones that mattered were those of grey and purple in our favorite window seat.

Asra’s purple eyes crinkled around his golden tan skin when he smiled as he waved me over. His beautifully messy white curls were slightly in his eyes as always. His dimples flashed at me making my heart leap.

Julian’s steely grey eye looked at me with delight. He had pale skin and brilliant auburn hair, which always made him stand out in a crowd. His hair slightly covered the eye patch that he wore over his right eye. His other grey eye was focused on me with mischief before he pulled out his phone and began to video me walking over to them with a smile that always made my knees weak.

“Would you look at this beautiful black goddess before us! My dear you look stunning! Strut for us would darling?” Julian said with a smirk. They both knew how much I loved to put on a show, so I did a catwalk for them over to their table before striking a pose, with one hand on my hip and the other in my tangle of curls. Asra clapped for me while Julian dog whistled.

“Damn Rhian, are you trying to give everyone a heart attack?” Asra asked. I laughed at their antics before I sat down in front of them.

We laughed and talked about our lives, our college classes, and other random things. Julian was studying to be a doctor and he was a part time actor on the side. He was forever dramatic, so it made sense that he joined the community theater the first chance he got.

Asra was a magician. Since magic existed in our world, and Asra had been practicing it since he was young, it was no surprise that he continued with his studies in college.

I, on the other hand, was studying to become a musical theater performer. I had been dancing since I was little, and I loved to act and sing, so it was a perfect fit. Julian and Asra had been to a few of my recitals and shows before and they were always super encouraging, bringing me flowers, chocolate (my favorite), and plenty of hugs and compliments.

“Alright so what was so important that you two wanted to talk about?” I asked curiously. I saw them both blush which made me tilt my head to the side in confusion. Why are they blushing and looking at me like that?

“Guys, why are you blushing?” I laughed.

Julian looked at Asra, who sighed before taking my hand and tentatively looking at me. I looked back at him while he started to play with my fingers.

“Rhian, love. . .” Asra started, then looked back at Julian who looked just as nervous for some reason. Julian took my other hand in his and squeezed my hand.

“Dear, we want to tell you something that’s, in a way, kinda unorthodox.” Julian said looking into my eyes.

“Ok, you can tell me. You two know that I’m always comfortable around you. I mean, I asked you to get me pads the other week so how bad can it be?” I laughed, trying to lighten the looks on their nervous faces. Asra cracked a smile and brought my hand to his lips while Julian chuckled a little and blushed a bit.
