"Hey, Emerson, watcha reading? I asked my friend.

"Percy Jackson and the Olympians," she said casually, flipping a page.

"Cool, you should have lunch with me," I told her.

"Not if those idiots are going to be with you, just go sit with Cayla," she said.

"Amie, Ethan, and Elijah never sit with me, their too popular, besides I need a break from Cayla. She never shuts up about boys, you know that," I said.

"Alexandra, did you call me?" Speak of the devil, and thou shall appear, I thought grimly. Cayla Brady started walking over to me with a huge, fake smile plastered on her face. Emerson started to walk away but I grabbed her arm.

"Em, you cannot leave me with her," I whispered.

Emerson got out of my grasp and walked away, her nose still in her book. Son of a b-

"Hey, Andy!" she said cheerfully when she reached me.

"Cayla, I told you not to call me that," I groaned, giving her my own fake smile.

"Mind the attitude, Cortese," Cayla snapped. "I need to tell you something."

She grabbed my wrist and yanked me into the bathroom. God, this girl is rude, the only reason she hangs out with me is because I'm her English tutor, that and I'm best friends with her crush. That's right, Cayla likes Elijah, and she uses me to get to him and it's gotten worse over the years. Cayla started hitting me and bossing me around when I would say no or when I wouldn't tell her anything about Elijah, I've gotten used to it but sometimes I feel like bashing her head into a wall over and over again.

"Halloween is coming up and you are going to help me pick out the hottest costume for the dance," she said quickly. "What's Elijah going to be?"

"A twig, he's gonna be a twig," I said sarcastically. Cayla slapped me and got in my face.

"Look, I don't know what is going on in that stupid little head of yours that makes you think you can talk to me like that," she growled, "but do that again and you're gonna get something a lot worse than a slap."

"I-I'm sorry," I stuttered. Cayla glared at me then dragged me out of the bathroom and into the hallway.

"Well, I have class, bye!" she said, running down the hall.

I felt a tap on my shoulder, and I quickly turned around and punched the person behind me(due to reflexes).

"Damn, Alex, I know you can hit hard but why me?" Elijah asked, clutching his stomach.

"Oh my God, are you okay? I've told you not to come up behind me!" I said worriedly.

"I just wanted to know if you're coming over later," he said, breathing heavier than normal.

"Uh, no, I'm tutoring someone after school," I lied. "I'm sorry, are you sure you're okay?"

"I'm good, let's go to class," he said, walking both of us to our next shared class.

"Do you have a Halloween costume yet?" I asked.

"Me and Ethan were planning on being skeletons," he replied.

"You already are skeletons," I joked, poking his side just to annoy him―and prove my point.

"Yeah, that's the point," he laughed. "What about you?"

"You can't judge me. Castiel, an angel of the Lord." I told him. Elijah stared at me with a confused look, he opened his mouth to say something then closed it again, once he opened it again he looked at me.

"The angel from Supernatural?" he asked.

"Yup, and Amie's gonna be Ruby," I replied, and once again he looked confused. "The demon that Sam picked over his brother?"

"Well, I'm an idiot," he said, facepalming.

"Yeah, you are," I agreed easily.

As Cayla and I walked to the mall to find her a costume, she kept asking what Elijah was going to be, as if I would tell her.

"So I'm thinking...hot zombie nurse," she said as we walked into Spirit Halloween, I simply nodded my head and followed her. Cayla picked up a zombie costume and looked back at me.

"Do you think this is good? I like it, do you think Elijah will like it? I'm buying it," she said in one breath. Once again, I just nodded and shrugged my shoulders, she bought the costume and left the store.

"Let's stop at Hot Topic real quick," I said, hoping she would say yes.

"Fine, but why? We got what we came for," she said, holding up her bag in front of my face.

"I want to see if they have something I want," I said. Cayla rolled her eyes but walked towards the store. I smiled, caught up, and thanked her. Once inside, I headed straight for the Twenty One Pilots section, as I was planning on buying a new hoodie since mine were pretty old. Finally having what I was looking for, we left the mall.

A/N: This part was so you can see the relationship between Cayla and Alex. I thought that would be pretty helpful
