Buildings blurred past Amber in her haste to escape the predestined future the universe had laid out for her. The standards of perfection and ideality had been set too high in her mind, though she had all but convinced herself to abandon the hope of attaining either of those. Her family would surely berate her for this later, she thought.
After all, how could she ever expect to meet this fantasy man? To live the life of adventure she's so craved since her long-forgotten childhood? Any sensible person would have determined it to be impossible ages ago.
Yet Amber King was neither sensible nor ordinary.
Desperation alone brought her to Jemini, bitter tears marring the make-up that once adorned her gentle features. There, just inside by the ancient door, stood the hag with her tome. When asked if it was okay to wait inside the shop for a moment, the hag remained silent and merely outstretched her grey arms in offering.
Amber, bewildered by this and the room in which she'd found herself, accepted the book out of politeness. Her frantic gaze darted across the empty space in confusion, admiring the names etched into the wall with an air of curiosity. Although she'd only stepped foot into the shop to avoid being discovered by her husband-to-be and his many guests, she couldn't help but feel an eerie, unexplainable sense of belonging.
She turned back towards the hag to ask just what this building was meant for, but to her astonishment, the hag had gone. In fact, it was as if no woman had ever been there at all.
Instead, all that remained in the room aside from Amber was the tome in her grasp and the door that quietly clicked open before her.
