Chapter 2 ~ Crossing Paths

Author's Note: Joe and Sara are completely platonic in this story(unless I decide something else) so in case you wonder about that while reading, well this is your answer!
(Nao's POV)

It was Saturday, and it had been a day since I met that girl with the pretty voice. As much as I would love to have the chance to have a conversation with her, my chances of that are now pretty much ruined, having made myself a fool when we first met. Now I hope and pray that I never see her again. It was in the early evening and I was feeling a bit bored. That's when I got a text from Sara.

Sara Chidouin: Hey Nao, me and Joe are going to the mall later, wanna come? -Sent at 5:39 pm-

Me: Sure! Just lemme get ready and we'll meet at the bus station, right? -Sent at 5:41 pm-

Sara Chidouin: Right, cya there. -Sent at 5:43-

Perfect, just the thing to take my mind off of it.

About ten minutes later, I met Sara and Joe at the bus stop. We all got on and were on the way to the mall. We talked about things while on the bus, like school and our plans for Spring Break. I asked Joe how he and Ryoko were doing and he said things were good. I smiled with a slightly jealous tone. Then Sara turned her head and looked at me.

"Nao, have you met anyone who, you know-" Joe then cut in, "makes you feel a special kinda way?" My face turned a little pink at that statement. I thought back to yesterday. Should I tell them?

"Umm, n-no!" I paused, "Well, maybe, but.." I was mustering up the courage to say all that happened, when suddenly.

"URRRRR, cshhhhhh." The bus had come to a halt. We had arrived at the mall. Both Sara and Joe got out of the bus, and I followed shortly behind. Wow, I really dodged a bullet there. We walked the rest of the way from the bus stop to the mall doors.

As we walked through the doors, we looked at the array of stores ahead. We decided on going to a large clothing store first. We walked down the aisles, looking at things left and right. I noticed a large line of shopping carts as well as a long aisle beside it. That's when I got an idea.

"Hey Sara, come give us a push!" She turned in direction of Joe's voice to see us by one of the shopping carts. Joe was inside the actual cart, and I was standing on the edge of the bottom shelf.

She laughed as she walked towards her and said "Only if one of you push me next!" She started to push, slowly getting faster. I held on tight as my hair blew backward. And for the next 15 minutes, we each took turns running down the long aisle, pushing the cart back and forth.

By the time we were done we were all a little hungry, so we all walked over to (food place of your choice) and got something to eat on the second floor. While I was eating I saw a cute looking pastry store to my left. I'll have to check that out later.

"Hey let's go in there!" Joe said as he pointed to a store across the top floor.

"Sure!" I said, but then Joe tapped both me and Sara on the shoulder and started running down the walkway like it was a game of tag.

"Hey wait up Joe!" Sara laughed and said, and took off, and I followed close behind. We caught up to Joe at the doors of the store and went in.

(Reko's POV)
It was around 6:45 pm and I was at the mall for no reason in particular(wow what a coincidence lmao). I walked around the first floor for a bit and when I got to the fountain I stopped. I took out a coin and tossed it in. I wish for someone special. A little cliche, I know. I wasn't one to believe too much in wishes, but you never know, right? As I stood there in silence I heard a faint shouting coming from the second floor.

"Hey wait up Joe!" A girl's voice called out from above me. I looked up to see what the noise was about. I saw a boy with messy brown hair running across the second floor. He was being chased by a girl with an orange ponytail, who I assume was the one shouting. And following behind her was- wait, was that-? No doubt about it, she had long pink hair, exactly like the girl I saw yesterday.

Should I go over to her? I did say to myself that I would talk to her the next time I saw her, but I didn't think it would actually happen. Well, I guess there's no harm in trying.

I walked to the escalator and rode up to the second floor of the mall. Shit, I didn't see where they went. I started looking around. Then I caught a glimpse of her running into a (your choice) store. That must be the one they went in. I walked into the store and looked around. Then, I saw her, well, only from behind, looking through little compartments by the cash register. I lightly tapped her on the shoulder.

(Nao's POV)
I walked around the store and looked around at things. I looked at some shelves, then went to look as some small keychains by the register. Then I suddenly felt someone tapping my shoulder.

Assuming it was Sara, I turned around and said, "Yeah Sara-?"I stopped in shock and turned bright red(of embarrassment from what happened). It wasn't Sara, it was, that girl, from the park. I froze up with anxiety, why why why did we have to meet again?? A million thoughts flashed through my head at once, but there was one that I couldn't shake from my mind, why was she here again now?

"Um, y-yes?" I said, wanting to find out why.

"I don't know if you remember me but regardless I'd like to get to know you so, I'm Reko, Reko Yabusame," she said as she gave me a smile that made my heart flutter a bit.

"I'm, Nao Egokoro, n-nice to meet you!"

"Nice to meet ya too." She said back as I thought of what to say next.

(Sara's POV Woah)
Joe and I walked around the store together looking at stuff, while Nao was at a different section of the store.

"Yeah, Sara-?"I heard Nao faintly say in the background. Hmm? I went to see what Nao wanted. But when I found her, I saw something I didn't expect. Nao was blushing, and talking, well trying to talk, to another girl. I gasped with a smile. She totally likes this girl. I looked back to Joe, who was still deciding what to get.

"Hey, Joe c'mere!" I excitedly whispered to him. He turned and walked towards me.

"What is it Sa-" He started to say but before he could finish, I put my index finger on my mouth.

"Shhhhh!" I said as I pointed at Nao. He looked in the direction of my finger, smiled, and whispered, "Ohhhh, what should we do?"

"Well, we gotta help her out somehow, hmmm." I turned on my phone to the lock screen, the time was 7:24. Soon the sun will set and it will be dark soon. I grabbed Joe's arm and walked towards Nao.

"Hey, Nao, it's getting kinda late, so I and Joe are gonna head home," I said to her.

"Yeah, We got some homework to do," Joe said. Joe its spring break what are you-

"What do you mean, isn't it spring break?" Nao responded to Joe's remark with a bit of a confused look.

Seeing Joe not knowing what to respond with, I cut in, "Housework, is what he meant to say. We have to get back to our homes to do chores and stuff like that, sorry we have to cut it short Nao."

"It's alright, see you guys tomorrow." We waved goodbye and walked out of the store and away from Nao. We continued to walk and when we were out the mall doors and walking down the sidewalk, Joe turned his head to me.

"Thanks for that save back there, guess they don't call ya Steelmind for nothing huh!"

I laughed at him and said, "Only you call me that Joe! Now come on, let's go get some boba from down the street or something!"

"That's a great idea, let's go!" Joe said, energetic as always. He smiled back as we continued down the pavement.
