It was a cold and rainy night as Genie Thad and her small family of four loaded into the old blue Ford Anglia owned by her father. The eerie, gloomy mood that surrounded the atmosphere that Monday morning perfectly met that of the emotions of Genie herself. You see, as the wind pattered hard outside the window in which she was sitting, her mind could only drift to the night previous. To the exact scene which unfolded when her parents and her little sister Chloe found out about her disease.

She had been ever so careful to hide it of course, ever so careful indeed ; alas, her efforts went in vain when they discovered her exquisitely executed journal (and the much forbidden content within).

Therefore, today was the day in which she would be hauled off to a correctional facility, her parents insisted that it was mainly a school for troubled children and that they believed that being there with people with the same condition would help her learn to cope. Yet, Genie was a bright girl and she knew the truth.

So as they drove past the lovely Maine pines and the fresh fallen leaves she couldn't help but gaze at her last glimpses of freedom. Pure, unauthorized freedom.
