He was so beautiful.
He looked like a fallen angel. So perfect yet she could sense how wicked and dark he was, and that the next year would be filled with nothing but twisting turns and memories that would change the rest of her life. She thought she was being dramatic too at first but then couldn't contradict her original thoughts. He was trouble.
Across from her, he studied her with a heavy gaze. Javier was tired and didn't feel like expressing his ¨definite¨ feelings of euphoria towards having some random chick, whom he even doubted had the skills to protect him, follow him around for a year. He chuckled to himself quietly.
"How the hell will she protect me when I'm the danger. I guess I'll only make her time here harder for her. Then maybe she'll fucking leave.¨ He grinned softly into Apollo's fur, slowly stroking it with large and heavy strokes. He glanced over at his brother, who was playing now staring straight ahead at the coffee table. He studied Miguel with dull eyes. He could tell Miguel wasn't going to talk to him anytime soon. Was it something he had done?
José came down the stairs, eying the scene in the living room. Two of his mentally unstable sons, a girl that knew nothing about what she was getting herself into, an overly-friendly maid, and the dog. José loved Apollo.
"Apollo boy! Come here baby!¨, he called as he threw his arms open. Verona's eyes jolted from Javier's lips to José being overly affectionate with the dog. Suddenly she heard someone sit next to her, throwing their arm around the back of the couch. She glanced over without moving her head, just to get a peek of the leg, before slowly facing the person.
Javier.
She felt her flushed its color, turning pale and cold. She felt her arms prickle with goosebumps and heart pound out of her chest and onto the polished wooden floor. He wasn't even looking at her but she could feel his eyes pierce into her with his peripheral vision, as he watched his father and the dog. She slowly turned her head back around, even though she wanted to study how stunning Javier was.
¨So- Omg stop it, Apollo! Hahaha! Stop it!- did you guys ta- Apollo! Baby! Stop licking me!-¨
Everyone could tell José was having trouble conveying messages through broken sentences because Apollo seemed to tower over José and shower him in affection.
Verona felt a small chill on her back, as she scooted farther away from Javier. She didn't want him to notice that her teeth were pressed together in a smile a little too hard, and it instead looked like a grimace.
Suddenly she felt movement beside her.
And before he could blink, Javier's lips were near the back of her ear. She could feel how close he was and could feel his cold breath against her neck as he let out a small sigh. She could feel him study her underneath his prickling gaze, as it sent jolts of pleasure down her spine.
¨What the fuck. What the actual fuck.¨, she screamed in her head as she tried to focus on the gruesome scene of José getting smothered by the dog while he laughed. This wasn't going to end anytime soon.
¨ You know, sometimes I think he's into bestiality. Pretty gross. Poor dog.¨, he whispered as he smiled. She could feel his eyes study her back as he anticipated laughter as a response.
Instead, she turned to him, arching her brow in confusion but was met with his sharp gaze. His eyes felt like they were stabbing her's, yet she couldn't turn away.
She was paralyzed.
He was so close to her that he could feel his smile, and his breathing. His breath smelt like polar ice gum, the really strong yet charming kind. ¨Oh god, oh god, oh my god. His dad is right there. Verona move, oh god.¨ she pleaded in her head.
