Sunday, 12:00 noon Amber's Student Apartment
Amber was sitting in front of her vanity mirror channeling the current frustrations of the past week out on her hair, the vessel she used as a medium was her pick that she received right before going to college. Her ear of comfort at the moment was Demonie Lassiter AKA 'Moonie', they had been friends since freshman year of high school.
"I really don't understand why she has an attitude with me, Moonie. She's number one in our Ethics class." She huffed out. Amber was talking about her arch nemesis Joelle, who thought she was the queen bitch of the liberal arts majors.
On the other side of the room, in the lavender bean bag was 'Moonie', his mind was plucking off his nerves one by one because he'd been ignoring his girlfriend for two days. Moonie's phone started ringing and he already knew who it was, he thought maybe if he ignored the trilling phone then she'd hang up.
"I mean like, Sis you're already the top of the fucking class, what more could you fucking want? Do you want Mr. Jones, as fucking well? Nobody- Well everyone wants him. But that doesn't mean you gotta treat everyone around you like a bitch, right Moonie?"
Moonie's phone trills loudly again battling with the projection in Amber's furious voice "Yeah, totally don't get it." He says not too confident because he's occupied with how he's going to approach Sylvia. He knew ignoring her wasn't going to cut it because she could ring the phone all day. However, it was only a matter of time before Amber snapped and Sylvia showed her face.
Amber rolls her eyes, "You finna get that, Moonie?" She says while picking the right side of her afro a little too hard causing some hair to go with the pic.
She scrunches up her face and raises her right arm, "See what that bitch then did? She making my hair fall out!"
His phone stopped ringing; but, it wasn't too much time before it started ringing again. Moonie exhaled hard through his nostrils, shook his head, took the phone out of his pocket, and put the ringer on vibrate.
Amber turns around flailing the pic around some more "Moonie, who the hell is blowing up your phone like that? You better hope it's not an emergency."
He puts his hand up "Don't Rea. It's not an emergency, it's far from it." He says lowly while lightly rolling his eyes.
"Then what is it? Is it Sylvia?" She turns her brown orbs into torpedoes in his direction, seeing how his body gets smaller in the reflection of the mirror.
"You know it is." He says with an exasperated sigh.
The air became as dense as the deep sea when Amber started thinking about how to console her friend; but, she was fed up with consoling and hashing it out about his relationship with Sylvia. Moonie and Sylvia had been dating for two years. When Amber had first met Sylvia things were cool, they would go shopping all the time with Mariposa and Nalyssa. Then, once Sylvia and Moonie had gotten steady, he decided to tell her that he and Amber dated back at the beginning of high school; and, he hasn't had a girlfriend since then. The world turned upside down after that moment, she started calling a lot, asking for money and stopped hanging around the girls.
On the other hand, Moonie was thinking about an escape plan. He knew he couldn't stay at Amber's place any longer maybe he could go to J'anansi's (Ja- uhh-nah-see) or Levon's spot for a while to lay low. Moonie's heart and mind were racing to the finish line on what to do next and how to cover his tracks from his bear hunter of a girlfriend.
The pounding at the door kicked them both back into the moment in front of their eyes. Amber furrowed her eyebrows and looked back at Moonie in confusion as to who could be knocking on her door in such a manner.
