This story ain't dead people!!!

"You ready to go?", I asked Alice.

"Yep, all packed and ready to go", Alice said with a smile as she held a bag with what they had.

We were currently packing up everything we brought to the capitol. We decided after last nights festivities it was time for us to go, time to get back to work. There was a village in the mountains that we heard was having problems with a dragon. Me and Alice could probably help with the issue, and get paid well for it. I also heard that the village has a pretty big hospital that helps nearby villages, it would be a shame for it to be destroyed.

"then let's head out", I said.

We walked out of our room closing the door behind us. We made our way down to the inn giving the inn keeper the keys to our room. We gave them our goodbyes and thanks for their hospitality. We began to walk out before someone walked up to us blocking our path.

"are you the assassin hero, the hunter, John Carter? and are you the crimson hunter?", the knight asked

"are you the assassin hero, the hunter, John Carter? and are you the crimson hunter?", the knight asked.

"yes I am and this is my companion Alice, do you have business with me?", I asked.

"yes, I am from Emerald village. I am one of the town knights that protects the village. There was news that the assassin hero would be in the capital to fight the next wave. Stories of your bounties and missions have travelled throughout the land and the village found it beneficial to ask for your assistance. That's why they sent me, Arthur Pendleton, a knight from the village to find you", Arthur explained.

"how much is the village willing to pay?", I asked.

"The village is on hard times right now, a dragon has been attacking anyone that travels around the mountain to get to our village. This in return has caused a small food shortage along with our merchants not making much money. We were able to scrounge together four hundred silver pieces", The knight said holding the bag of money.

"we'll take the job, let us depart now", I said walking past him.

"Also, I was wondering. Who is this crimson hunter you spoke of?", Alice asked curious.

"Why I thought it was you, it's the name of the hunter's companion", Arthur answered.

"Yes, did you hear that master?? I've finally got a nickname like you, this is so cool!!", Alice said jumping up and down.

"congratulations Alice", I said with a smile.

We exited the tavern with the knight to fetch our horses. Me along with Alice and Arthur mounted our horses while loading them with the items we bring along with us. We started making our way through the city with Arthur leading us since he knows how to get to the village and a carriage was attached to his horse. On our way we ran into Naofumi and Raphtalia.

"Naofumi and Raphtalia, how do you do?", I asked as we came up to them.

"John and Alice, where are you guys off to?", Naofumi said with a smile.

"We are on our way to Emerald village", I answered.

"huh, interesting. We were heading in that direction ourselves actually ", Naofumi said.

"Hm, then why don't we travel together. Me and Alice have a job involving the village, it would be nice to travel with friends", I said offering.

"I don't see why not, sadly we don't have horses though", Naofumi said.

"Don't worry shield hero, I had to drop off some supplies to a store for money. I have a carriage you can hitch a ride on", Arthur offered. Naofumi nodded before him and Raphtalia jumped on before we continued on our way.

"why aren't you judgmental? most people who see me or John usually walk the other way", Naofumi asked as we walked through the city.

"Many people have heard of your heroics during the first wave shield hero along with Mr. Carter's along with his bounties and missions. The people in the village saw your acts of heroism, it's begun to make them question the allegations against you", Arthur said.

"Hm, that'll be nice. I hate all these people on my back", Naofumi commented.

"Give it more time and I'm sure no one will believe the allegations anymore", Arthur said.

We left the city making our way to the village. We dropped off Naofumi and Raphtalia in a village on the way that they meant to get to. After that we continued our journey to the village. As we made our way through a forest I couldn't stop thinking about the dragon. I've yet to fight one, I've mainly fought small beasts or dealt with normal people. This will surely be one of the hardest fights we have ever done. We soon made camp for the night once it got dark. Arthur and Alice made a fire while I kept watch for monsters or bandits in a tree.

"I heard many stories about the assassin hero but I never thought I would meet him", I hear the knight say as he takes his helmet off.

"Yeah, he's pretty amazing. I've learned a lot of things from him", Alice said unaware I could hear her.

"Oh, he's your teacher? I always thought you guys were in a relationship", the knight said.

"WHAT!?!", Alice yelled have a massive blush on her face. She quickly pulled her hood over her head to hide her face.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to assume", the knight quickly apologized. From the corner of my eye I see Alice look toward the fire.

"It's ok, I can see where your coming from. Honestly, I do see him more as a teacher", Alice said.

"Then why don't you tell him?", The knight asked.

"I'm afraid he won't feel the same. I'm also afraid that if he doesn't feel the same he'll leave me. After my family died during the first wave I've been on my own for so long. I was kidnapped and sold into slavery after they died. It was a terrible and scaring experience, but John saved me. Gave me a second chance at life that I could never pay him back for. And in this time I've learned so much about the person he is and what he's dealing with. He's like me, alone. Sorry about my rant", Alice said talking to the knight.

"No, no, it's good to talk to someone about this. Letting these feelings build up can be self destructive. I can also relate in my own way. I felt the same way with my wife. When I first saw her I fell in love, but I could never muster up the courage to tell her until I finally did. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith Alice. You never know what life might have instore for you", the knight said with a kind smile.

"Maybe your right. I'm going to head to bed", Alice says.

"I think I will as well, goodnight Mrs. Alice", the knight said as they both went to their own tent.

As they left I looked up to the sky looking at the moon shining down. I thought about what I heard Alice talk about. I never knew she though of me like that, I just thought she saw me as a teacher or father figure. I honestly don't know if I feel the same, and I'm afraid what will happen when she asks me about it. I watched the stars and moon shine deep in thought.

"I don't know if I'm the one for you Alice. My soul might be too damaged"
