Have you ever walked into a room and then realize you have no idea why you came into that room? You stand there and look around for something that jumps out at you, or a reason why you decided to come there. As I sat up in a white hospital bed I looked around in confusion. I heard a crinkling sound and I looked down to see I was wearing a blue and white paper hospital gown. The neat crisp sheets wrinkled as I pulled them aside and then I noticed the tubes connected to my right arm. A metal IV pole sat next to the bed and was hung with a bag of fluids. They steadily dripped down through the tubes ad into my arm where the IV was inserted.
My mind raced as I tried to think of why I was here but there was nothing. No memory of where I last was, no memory of the last person I talked to, and no memory of who I am. A strange plastic thing was clipped on my finger so I impatiently took it off. A machine started to beep loudly and the door flung open. A nurse in blue scrubs came running in, her high heels sharply clicking on the hard floor. She looked at me and almost fell to the floor after snapping the stiletto heel on her shoe. She took off her shoes and yelled out the door for a doctor. In no time a swarm of people in blue scrubs piled in the room and surrounded me. They got me to lay back down in the bed and put the finger thing back on. I tried to talk but every time I opened my mouth the doctors would interrupt with questions.
"I was-"
"Do you feel light headed or drowsy?"
I looked at the doctor in confusion.
"Well, no but-"
"Can you touch you thumb to all your fingers for me?"
This came from a doctor on the other side of me. I started to touch my thumb to my fingers as asked and he scribbled something down on a clipboard. There was a pause of silence so I seized the opportunity to talk.
"Could you possible te-"
The door opened and a man ran in. He was in his early twenties and was good looking. He wore a nicely fitting grey t-shirt and straight legged jeans. He looked over at me and a wave of relief washed over him. His eyes welled up in tears and he pushed through the doctors that were holding him back. Before I could utter a single word to this man he grabbed me into his tight grasp and pressed his lips against mine. I froze in place and with all my strength, which later I realized wasn't a lot, tried to push him off me. When I successfully got this man off me he looked amazed to see me.
"Rose, when I got the call that you finally woke up I can here as soon as I possible could. I'm so happy that your awake and-"
I couldn't take being ignored anymore so before I knew what I was doing I clamped my hand around the man's mouth and the whole room went silent. I looked around at the doctors as they stared at me in mild shock. The man looked at me like I was crazy and before he could pry my hand off I began to speak in a hoarse voice.
"Will you just listen to me for one second?!"
The man finally pried my hand off and took my hands gently in his. He looked at me with big watery blue eyes. He frowned slightly but his voice was soft and comforting as he spoke.
"Rose, what is it? What's wrong?"
I yanked my hands out of his and he looked at me in a hurt way. I looked at the doctors and looked back at him before I ran a hand through my tangled hair. I pointed a finger at him and looked at the doctors in confusion.
"Who is this guy?! Why is he calling me Rose? Why am I here?!"
The doctors looked at one another with surprised faces. One stepped forward and gestured to the man next to me.
"He is calling you Rose because that's your name. Rose, he is your husband."
I looked at the man in shock and he returned the look. The doctor frowned as I looked at him and shook my head with an uneasy laugh.
