Luke suddenly striked at me,almost killing me right then and there had I not brilliantly dodged it!.....by slipping over some invisible object and not-so gracefully twirling to stop myself from falling.
I used my new hammer to balance myself out before putting it back in my hands, ready.
Luke wasted no time before launching another offensive towards me,I used my hammer to try block his strikes.
As we fought, I tried to observe how Luke was fighting but he seemed to keep changing his style, infuriatingly so,which made it hard to accurately predict what he'd do.
I decided to go onto the offensive, during a quick moment of Luke retracting his sword,I struck quickly, hoping to knock him off of his edge ever so slightly so that he'd miss and I could hit him.
I was confidant in my plan and at first it seemed to work, he got slightly dazed and I tried to hit him but I suddenly felt extremely weird and saw Luke suddenly a little closer and more composed than he should've been, I stumbled to try counter it but he seemed to move too quick for me and managed to knock me to the ground, the tip of his blade aimed at my neck, drawing a prick of blood that made me wince.
While I was fine with losing, it was afterall my first real combat situation, well, the first formal one. But the look on Luke's face, for a brief second looked almost like a wild animal, his eyes wide, a feral smirk on his face as if he had reality at his fingertips.
But,just as quickly as it appeared, it was gone, replaced with the mischievous smirk Luke always seemed to have, like the air itself around you had some prank in it constantly.
I decided that Luke's feral look must've just been the heat of battle, everyone gets a little more insane-looking in battles, at least, I think so.
Luke offered me his hand and I took it,pulling me to my feet again.
"Not bad for a beginner, that stunt you pulled almost worked!" Luke said, he looked...proud? Excited? One of those emotions.
"Heh, yeah, how'd you move that fast, that was amazing!" I asked.
Luke smiled with a knowing look. "Some secrets are best left so."
That was kind of irritating.
"My odds on you being a son of Athena." Luke stated.
"What makes you say that and not Hephaestus?"
Luke exhaled. "You have the same expression Annabeth has whenever I tell her something cryptic, that look of irritation and want to ask a million questions."
I sighed. "No hiding it."
Luke shrugged. "Both have their benefits, Hephaestus kids are wicked at building stuff, I swear, they've got most of my investments, you can't beat their machines at doing what they need to do."
"That is if I ever find out who my parent is...." I said glumly
Luke pat my shoulder "Don't worry about it, even if you don't you'll always have us!"
That both comfort me and worried me.
"Now,we have capture the flag, that'll be fun! It'll be your time to shine!" Luke encouraged.
I smiled "I can show Annabeth I'm not a moron"
"Thats the spirit!"
