ENVELOPE IN SHADOW

59 2 1

Version 1 -

A pale winter's moon,
With mangling winds and gravel-grey sky.
In a cold wintry forest,
At the far corners of the world,
My skin - seeping cold.
I try to stand...
In this piece of land.
But my legs are like jelly and my body seems so heavy.
Exhaustion hits, but despite this,
I slowly step my feet onto the cold, wet frost,
Steadily walking through the chill with a feeling of loss.
Freezing air hitting my face and numbing my cheeks,
Making my every movement weak.
I walk and walk,
Alone and cold,
My eyes scouring the tree line for any signs of life...
Instantaneously, I hear an eerie voice.
I look to the direction of the sound coming from...
A dark figure suddenly squirms and hums.
Only a matter of seconds before he rises,
Like a silent snake coming upon its prey,
My heart is dismayed.
I stand dead when he appears,
Staring at his dark, unblinking eyes...
In front of my vision ; the shadow arrives.
For a moment everything is quiet, the wind stills.
The forest gets colder and chills...
The shadow seems to inhale an icy rattling breath,
Which sounds more like an arriving death.
The shadow watches and speaks...
Every word that comes out of him is as terrifying shrieks.
The hooting of owls increases,
The moonlight suddenly diminishes.
Like the darkness handed over its realm to this forest,
The shadow in front of me stands the tallest.
The stars above dimming in fear,
The Darkness approaches near.
I lay my eyes close, frightened and frozen,
Everything around me moves in slow motion.

Version 2 -

Suddenly a bolting thought sparks every nerve of my body,
I've never been so weak to let anyone touch or ruin my sanity.
I stand my ground and put on a fight,
The tall Shadow defeated, smitten by the sword of light.
Once again the forest reappears in its truest form,
Peace and warmth after a long and troublesome storm.
