− Victor, I just came from the beach and took these photos. Do you want to see them?

− Show me. Heck! What is this foam?

− I also got confused... Did you see how violent is the sea? We are in the middle of the Summer! Never saw something like this here.

− You're right! Weird... Look honey, will you then start to get ready for us to go? I already ran in the park and I'm ready.

Half hour is enough for me, to jump in the shower and to prepare myself. Francisco asked us to be there around midday. It's still nine-thirty. We have plenty of time.

− Really? Very well. I'll work a bit on the computer.

After many months of trying to make their relationship work, they had reached the conclusion that they admired and adored each other very much, but it would be healthier for both to follow a series of new parameters that they had never tried with other partners, for example, not placing a label on their relationship. They considered themselves more than friends, however, they avoided being on a tight leash like boyfriend and girlfriend. Another idea they adopted was living in separate places, meeting when they pleased, which in reality was almost daily, seeing that they were practically neighbours. Finally, they adopted favouring freedom with open arms, leaving one another completely independent to live their lives the way they wanted.

Considering these three elements, Isabel and Victor's situation became a bit strange at the beginning for both, since they were so used to control and limit the life of one another. Nonetheless, they didn't give up. They persisted in this diligence because they were constantly missing each other when they didn't communicate; clearly seeing that ending the relationship couldn't be in their plans, although they had tried it in a few tense moments. Few months elapsed, following this new way of living as a couple, they ended up confirming that they fully trusted the strong feeling they reciprocally felt. That was the fundamental pillar of their relationship, being that irrevocable in their hearts.

They met, by chance, during the launching of a book of a friend of other friends' author. They were immediately by the way their conversations flowed, because, from the start, they pleased each other with very identical thoughts about how to act and to enjoy each moment. They immediately decided they would belong to the life of one another, without big impediments, being those only the normal adjustments to the personalities between middle-aged people with a strong character who shares daily life intimately. Marriages and love affairs of both, after divorce, contributed to the disbelief of future relationships, only yearning and wishing tranquillity. Because of that, they were alone when they met. They were not children anymore, but they still felt life's vigour boiling inside them. The sexual attraction between them didn't have the same exuberant level like in their youth, with other partners, but this alleged flaw didn't present an obstacle to the couple's understanding, because one was not more passionate than the other. They loved each other, they were irreducibly friends and they supported each other in life's vicissitude, in a partnership that was lasting for five years. It was common for their friends to realize the good relationship that both had conquered.

In that instant, in the living room of their friends' country house, Isabel was talking with a young lady, from whom she received a compliment:

You guys are a fantastic couple! Do you ever get mad at each other?

Of course, we do! – she answered, smiling and looking through the big windowed door that showed a deck over a river with a strong current, where three men were sitting, glasses in hand, laughing and telling jokes. – The fights don't last long... Cutting off communication leaves us in awe, so we take care of our discord quickly. Victor and I miss each other very much.
