Jay hopped down on the last bit and smiled at the man, opening the satchel and showing him the contents. "Hopefully they're ripe enough to eat."

"And for that I am thankful. I could never get up there. Too old for that." Far from retrieving the sack of fruits, Mr. Tori looked up and observed their surroundings. "It will get dark in a couple of hours. Do you want to keep going for a little bit more?"

Jay nodded vehemently. Four days had passed since he left Shaiya, he was almost halfway through his journey. A small cart pulled by an ox couldn't compare to the grandiose elephants that had driven him and the monarch to his hometown. It would most likely take him a few more days to be able to see the palace silhouette on the horizon. It felt like an eternity.

The days were tough. Mr. Tori did his best to avoid sunny paths, but a few times, Jay had had to take shelter between the cargo, using a robe to shield himself from the scalding rays. One would say that would make him tired, but far from that, his mind remained wide awake when the moon rose over their heads, painting everything dark. The anticipation of seeing everyone again would keep him up until very late.

The older man and Jay walked back to the cart, Mr. Tori handed him a small knife and Jay quickly got to work, opening slits on the lychees' and peeling them so they could eat on the go.

"There's a stream farther away, we'll stop there. Old Bahil deserves a rest too," the man said looking at the skinny animal before them. The scrawny looks of the creature were deceiving, it pulled the heavy cart like a champion. Slow but sure.
