Kabir's POV
I barged in and fumed."You fucking donkey!"
The said donkey was up on his desk, eyes closed, ipods in ears and dancing.
The guards on the security team checking CCTVs must be having a blast watching this. But then again, it wouldn't be something new for them.
This was my best friend, alright. A sweet, brainless bastard.
"Kartik!" I yelled at him but it went deaf to his ears.
I picked up a pillow from the couch opposite his desk and threw it at him. His eyes opened, instinctively frantic.
He sighed dramatically and got down, removing the ipods.
"What do you want, Kabir?" He asked exasperated.
"Nothing," I said, walking to the other side of the desk. "Just wanted to give you something."
"Give what?"
"This." I punched him on the face, landing with a perfect force.
He groaned loudly, covering his eye and falling into his chair.
"That was for the ringtone prank," I said calmly before sprinting away from him.
"You can't just go punching people around for a harmless joke!" He protested.
"I can, 'cause I'm a dick," I said and threw another pillow. He dodged it.
"Really? Pillow fight? What are we, five?" He shook his head. "What took you so long to come here? I thought you would come right away after my first call which you blocked by the way. I was waiting for my Kabir Baby." He pouted.
I ignored the stupid nickname he had given me. It was nothing new for either of us.
"Mrs. Sharma called. Had some documnets to sign for a contract," I answered. My mind went back to Sitara, she really was something.
I shook my head and raked a hand through my hair.
It's not healthy for me to keep thinking about that woman.
"And what about Ishani?" He asked, checking his face on his phone's screen. "She called me, complaining about you. Kabir, you need to get over that girl. Not all girls are like that and—"
"Stop with that 'moving on' lecture. I know, they are not the same but— I don't know. Let's leave that topic. Tell me what have you been up to? Why did you change my ringtone?"
Kartik watched me for a long moment.
I just wanted to divert the sore subject which I successfully did. Kartik understood that and didn't push on.
"I did that because I knew you would come to hunt me down. Anyways, I wanted to tell you that I'm signing a big deal today." He claimed proudly.
"Really?"
"Yes, you won't believe how happy dad was when we got the email from that company. It's a huge opportunity for us."
"Which company is it?"
Must be one of the leading ones for Kartik to be so excited about it. His face said it all. He had been waiting all his life to lead a big project. I knew he was capable to handle it.
Someone knocked then.
Kartik's face lightened, though the bruise I gave him won't go away for a while. A smile threatened to form on my lips seeing his stupid grin. I cleared throat.
"Get to business, man. Best of luck."
To give him his professional space, I walked towards his bookshelf, behind his desk, and started going through the books. I doubt he had read any of these.
"You must be Ms. Roy?"
I lifted my head by hearing that familiar name.
It was indeed Sitara.
She was here. Something stirred in me at the sight of her.
Her eyes found me in an instant, sharp and alluring.
I kept the book I was holding and leaned my back on the bookshelf, completely focusing my attention on their conversation. Or maybe on her.
Her company was giving Kartik this project. The big, leading company the most beautiful woman owned.
I wasn't a believer, but it wouldn't just be a coincidence that we met again.
I crossed my arms over my chest. I wasn't very nonchalant with my gaze on her every move. I wasn't even ashamed I was staring.
Her brown hair were now tied up, few hair fallen loose out of the bun, caressing her face.
She sat in front of Kartik and they began discussing the contract.
She knew I was watching her. And there's this look on a woman's face where its clear she doesn't like it.
Sitara, however, was challenging me. The faint smirk on her lips, her slightly titled head, her finger rubbing against her neck.
Fuck. I needed to stop this obsession of hers from growing in me.
"I already signed him," she says, snapping me back out of my trans. "Right, Kabir?"
She sure did.
"My friend here isn't much of a talker. So obviously, he didn't tell me that." Kartik said, gritting his teeth at me.
I returned his glare, but more maturely than him. He was like a baby trapped in a body of an adult.
Their discussion resumed and I once again faded into the background, only here to watch Sitara.
Kartik's secretary brought him the papers. Sitara couldn't hide her thoughts when Kartik showed his unprofessionalism. I was with her on this one. Kartik was impossible to talk out of flirting his way through his entire staff.
They talked for quite a while and finally, Siatara stood up.
"You will soon receive the amount," she said.
"Looking forward to working on this project with you, Ms. Roy. Have a good day." Kartik said with a smile.
"Thank you."
"Hope we will meet soon." I blurted out. "For the rehearsals."
I didn't know what my face conveyed to her, but whatever it did, it pleased her. And that was enough for me.
"Of course." She smiled.
She left the room and I sighed heavily.
"Someone's catching feelings." Kartik murmured, collecting the mess of papers on his desk.
"You're very delusional."
"Whatever you say, Kabir Baby." his goofy smile came back.
"See you in hell." I spat before walking out. I had rest of the day free today, a rare occasion really. So I did what any sane person would do with their off day.
I got into my car and drove home.
