Just another Apocalypse

A Utopias dystopia

The year is 2109 and the world is fairly futuristic. Nothing dramatically super techy or anything just technological advancements in some parts of society. But with the advancement of the entire world no one country was better than the other. The world at peace was just as it has always been. It had its problems that were a threat to everyone. So like any logical government all major world governments kept on their toes. But America was the petri dish of the world still and had access to info from all over. But recently they had released a “Panacea” drug. A miracle drug that could regrow limbs and cure incurable diseases. It was the medical sciences biggest breakthrough as of now and everyone who was given it got exactly what they wanted. Lost limbs fully functional and whole. Diseases never thought to have a cure, gone with no side effects whatsoever. America was proud of their "Cure All" drug and even shipped it to other countries that needed it. The Panacea drug was administered to most major hospitals in America all ready. The drug was given to a select few countries that needed it the most. The world was good and everyone was happy. A week had passed nothing out of the ordinary but happier lives and families. Second passes and the drug is saving more and more lives. Third week arrives and news lines all over the world announce, “America's new drug to be a sign that the world is starting its ascension to newer and greater heights”.

Third week ends and on other news, a man is shot dead by the authorities. This wasn't necessarily big news but it's why he was killed.

The weapons used today in most the world's police departments are to non lethally incapacitate anyone acting out of order. They are shot with a syringe that injects the offender with a paralysis concoction, potent enough to work almost immediately but not lethal enough to kill. The only times someone is killed in the streets is when and if the paralysis dart didn't work and the offender is acting in a violent manner. And lethal action is taken if and only if  those requirements are met. It's not very unlikely to hear of lethal action being taken so everyone paid close attention to the news that morning. "Early this Saturday morning approximately at 4:11 am a man was shot and killed" the news reporter says seriously "Eye witnesses say that no matter what law enforcement had said, the offender wouldn't listen to reason".

The feed cuts to a recording of the POV of the officer that put the offender down. "Sir please get down on your knees so we can resolve this peacefully or else suppressive measures will be taken". The man hunched over groans and walks toward the police officer slowly, with a limp. "Sir if you take any more steps closer I will have to shoot you with a paralysis shot" the man starts to quicken its limp coming within 10ft of the officer. And without any warning the officer shoots a round into the man. But the man doesn't collapse like the majority of people shot with the syringe, he staggers a bit but keeps getting closer to the officer.  The officer puts 3 more darts into the man but they dont have any affect. "DIR IF YOU DO NOT STOP I WILL BE FORCED TO USE LIVE LETHAL AMMUNITION!" the officer yells out frantically. The man lunges at the officer mouth open "SIR PLEASE STOP" the officer says struggling to keep the man off off of him.

BANG…..BANG BANG……

The officer had shot the man 3 times. The officer throws the man's limp body off of himself but before the officer can properly recover the man he'd just shot gets up and bites his hand. The officer screams beats the man's face in until he loosens his bight then proceeds to shoot the man more times. But the man doesn't stop moving until the officer shoots him in the head. Then and only then the man stops moving.

The video cuts out and the reporter continues, "The officer didn't sustain any bad injuries and the authorities are trying to figure out why the offender had acted the way he did. Stay tuned for more updates". They of course never did find out what the cause of the offenders behavior. The name of the offender was Brian Carter, an ex U.S. sergeant that had lost his legs during a terrorist incident. No one understood what could have triggered that incident with a man of his background. His friends and family say that he was a cheerful guy, never violent in nature. Even after he had lost his legs he was still happy grateful to be alive, they said whole heartedly.

His wife later on had made a statement at his funeral, "He was our family's beacon of hope and stability despite his struggles in life. He had lost his legs but never ever showed weakness in his stride. He even got to get his legs back after a while thanks to the great scientists of our world. I don't understand why this happened to him but I am at peace knowing he has gone to a happy place". That was just it fir the Carter family.

But more cases of similar occurrences had started up the next couple days after that. They all were described eerily similar and and with more ex soldiers or amputees. The number of these accounts had spiked in numbers in the course of a week. But all over the world more incidents had arisen in the same manner and pattern that America was experiencing. Rumors had started to spread that the Panacea drug was to blame but no official proof was found to support that claim. But there was little known about where the drug had come from si the tumor didn't dissipate either. 

Soon the news was giving very different news. "Stay inside of your homes and avoid any suspicious figures. The government has dubbed the infected people that roam around attacking and eating other humans as "Infested" and advise against interacting with them. This is not a drill". The government had given the infected people a fancy name but soon the people had came up with a more fitting name. Zombies

A year had passed and zombies had become too vast in numbers to control and whole city's became quarantined. These cities were called "Z zones". The government's all over the world had yet to figure out the cause or the cure for these zombies and it was evident they weren't going to find the answers either. 

The utopia of world peace had reached its end. And in three years time the world became just another Apocalypse story.
