I block out the noises of my parents ranting about how I need to get better grades in school, to show off the high standards of our family name. They do this often, going crazy when my report card comes in the mail. They think of me as the reject of the family, the runt. They say the same thing every time, "Amber it's time for you to start picking up your grades, you're being an embarrassment to the family blah blah blah."

I've now learnt to hate the date when this particular letter from the school comes. The talk from my parents can last up to 30 minutes but this year has taken the grand prise of being the worst. It's because I'm going into senior year, my last year of high school and I couldn't be happier to get out of that hell hole.

I new my parents have never accepted me for me. They have always found me as a disappointment because I'm not as smart as the rest of my family, especially my perfect oldest sister, Melody. My sister graduated two years ago and was the top of her class. My parents expect me to be the girl she was, but I new I was never going to be like her.

-

As I tune back into the last part of their rampage of words, which has lasted a new record of 45 minutes, they speak the all to familiar words of, "You are a disappointment to the family with a report card like that!"

Finally after another couple of minutes they rush off to work. Another thing about my parents is that they're workaholics. They are never home and if they are they will never converse in an any normal conversation. They will only ask my how I am going in school and what my grades are like.

With all the money they have earned we live in a huge house, which is predominately empty of humans, except for me when I'm huddled up in my room. So technically, my parents don't need to work anymore, as we are already set for a lifetime financially.

As I'm just sitting here thinking about the last 45 minutes of hell, I decide I should start getting ready for my first day as a senior.

I head up to my room and strip off my Mickey Mouse pyjamas and hop into the shower. After I am finished in the shower, I head into the closet to pick my usual clothes that I wear to school almost everyday of the year. I pick out a pair of black skinny denim jeans, a Nirvana band T-shirt and my old half destroyed black converse.

Because I didn't wash my hair this morning, I can just take out my long dark brown hair from the bun and let it fall down my back. I chose to only put mascara on for my makeup ad head down stairs to the kitchen.

I quickly make myself a bowl of heavenly fruit loops, which is one of the best creations know to man. I pour the milk in the bowl finishing off the perfection and sit on the kitchen bench. As I eat my breakfast savouring the taste I predict on what is going to happen this year, I think about the previous years of high school, how they have all been the same. I've been the weird loner kid who sits by herself and has little to no friends. The kid that is different from the rest. I assume that this year will be no different and sadly i will still be that quiet, shy girl.

I leave my bowl in the sink filling it with water and heading off to school. My house is only a 10 minute walk, so it doesn't take me long to get there. You're probably wondering why I don't drive even though I'm a senior, the truth is my parents aren't letting me get a car until I finish high school because they say it can be your reward, if you get the grades we expect. I for one think it's complete bullshit; they probably can't be bothered to take me to choose my car or pay for my insurance. Why I think this, is because on the start of the senior year, my sister got a car.

-

As I tiredly walk up to entrance of my school, Riverbank High. I see people saying and exchanging hi's to their friends who they haven't seen all summer. They holler back and forth, the excitement is buzzing for everyone, except me.

Obliviously no one takes any notice of me as I push and squeeze my way through the crowd of people. I start heading up to the old building when I see our school head whore, Ashley Corville standing with her group of fake ass wanna-be Barbie's. I role my eyes and shake my head hearing their annoying wining voices in my ears, "Omg Ashley I've missed you so much" "Omg like tots." Kill me now.

As I look back up to the school building I see Chase Mathews leaning against the brick wall staring intently at me. I give him a questioning look before he quickly looks away, strange I think.

I lean against the cool wall of the school building waiting for my friends. I watch as the girls squeal when they see their friends, I role my eyes in annoyance. I see, trying to manoeuvre her way through the crowd, the girl my mind always wonders to. The girl that always sits by herself as if she's in her own world, I don't know why I have think about her in particular but I can't seem to take my eyes off her. She looks up and her captivating blue eyes meet my gaze, she shots me a questioning glance, as she notices me staring at her. Shit, and I quickly divert my eyes off hers.

I head to my locker to fish out my books for my first two periods of the day and head to my first class, calculus. I mentally groan, who wants to punish me this early in the morning? When I get to my classroom I seem to be the first person to arrive. I move to the second last row of seats at the back, and sit right next to the window. I put in my headphones and drown myself in some music. I watch as students start to fill into the classroom.

After the majority of the class is seated, Chase Mathews walks right through the door.

-

The girls in the room straiten their backs and push their chest forward more. I'm not going to lie he is very attractive, with his green striking eyes, perfectly messy looking dark brown hair, strong jawline, broad shoulders, height of around 6'3 and the smile that was obviously created by the gods, he is definitely a stunner. His gaze scans around the room then locks onto mine, his strides over to where I'm sitting and sits in the seat right next to mine. I don't straighten my back or push out my chest as the other girls do and Chase seems to notice it. Instead I turn up my music and lean back into the most uncomfortable chair.

Ignoring the fact that I have two headphones plugged in, he turns in his seat to face me, he speaks in a low warm tone "So Nirvana, you're stuck sitting next to me all year." He smirks, and I am forced to turn down my music to listen to him, much to my dismay.

"Nirvana?" I question, he makes a gesture to my shirt. "Oh," is all I say feeling slightly awkward, as I dart my eyes nervously around the room.

The teacher then strides into the room a little too confidently, "Hello class I am your new calculus teacher for this year I am Mr. Meyers" he says in an enthusiastic tone. Saved by the teacher I think to myself and by the time he starts talking about the year's events, I have already tuned out and drifted into my own thoughts.

The bell rings signalling the end of the period, everyone in the class starts to file out. I start to go out of the classroom and make my way down the hall when I hear a voice shout, "See you later Nirvana." I look over my shoulder to see Chase look at me with a smirk plaster on his handsome face. I stood there struck not knowing what to do with myself and just look at him, with a small laugh he turns away and walks the opposite way down the lockers.
