"I'll show them." Ariel swam away from her laughing sisters. She grabbed her box of tools and sat at her vanity mirror.
"I will walk. They'll see. They'll all see." Ariel spoke in a tone of voice that wasn't normal for her, it was almost terrfiying the way she spat her words in disgust.
She found what she was looking for.
A sharp, rusty piece of metal she had found at the surface. She was certain this would work, because all humans had them, but oh how wrong she was for her ignorance.
She started to cut deeply into her tail, making sure the metal went right down the middle. It was excruciating pain, but her disire to walk on the surface fueled her. She stopped. Something large was blocking her way. She cut further and thought that it was a long, white, stick inside of her. Never had she know that the stick she was trying to remove was her spine. She sawed it in half, and then snapped it, making a sicking crack as Ariel removed part of her spine. By this time she was holding back tears, the pain had subsided as she felt nothing below her waist. Her tail was split in two, yes, but she couldn't move them. Tendants and veins stuck out from everywhere and a murky cloud of blood pooled around her 'legs'. She didnt want to be seen, she didnt want anyone to see her like this, this monster.
"I just-i just...Wanted to walk...." She buried her face in her hands and cried uncontrollably, Blood pooled around her at an at the bottom of the ocean, unable to swim.
After while, the merfolk realized that Ariel hadnt been seen in s while. Her father, shockingly did not send anyone to go find his daughter. He assumed that she had gone to the surface and gotten captured. With no remorse for his curious daughter, they soon forgot her.
But Ariel didnt forget. Everyday she would wait. Wait and plot at the bottom of the murky depths of the ocean where she lay, immoblie.
Finnally, for the first time in what seemed like forever, she heard laughter. Soft, sweet laughter that melted her heart and filled her ears. She called out to it, her raspy voice filling in around her.
"Hello?"The voice called back. It was closer this time. It reapeated again. 'Hello?" Ariel smirked. Someone was going to die. She crawled atop of coral, desperate to see her victim. It was a small mermaid with midnight hair and beatiful eyes. She envied her, the small thing, for her innocence. Something she took advantage of. Something she made a fool out of herself because of.
And she hated her.
Ariel sang a sweet song to lure the poor child down deep into the ocean, were the light was soon begining to fade. But he chile kept moving, in some type of trans-like state. She was totally unaware that she was swiming to her very death. When she was finally in her reach, she tore the child to shreds. Piece by piece her body was no more.
