Momo watched as the two figures disappeared around the corner and into the parking lot. She was frozen in shock, still processing what had happened. Her new friends Monoma and Mineta sat in silence on the bench behind her. Then they burst out laughing.
"Oh my God, did you see how red her face was?" Monoma cackled, nudging Mineta, "that was way better than I thought it would be." Momo turned around and gave him a confused look, "excuse me?" The two waited until they stopped laughing and could catch their breath to answer.
"Jirou is so easy to get angry," Monoma said, "she'll jump at anyone if they say anything about one of her friends." "Yeah," Mineta said, "it's kinda hot too, when she gets mad." Momo tried not to grimace at that last comment. "That seems pretty mean. Has she ever done anything to you?" she asked. Monoma rolled his eyes, "you mean besides insulting me, my friends, and calling me out for failing exams? And that was just this time."
"But you did all those things to her and Kaminari first," she said. "Doesn't mean she didn't say 'em about me," he said nonchalantly. Momo stared at him in disgust. Her first week at this new school was not going how she'd hoped. Yes, she'd made friends with Monoma and Mineta, but were these the friends she wanted? Monoma had found something negative to say about practically everyone Momo had met so far today. And Mineta? He wasn't even trying to hide the fact that whenever he looked at her he was staring at her chest.
"I think I need to be going now," she said, putting her notes that Monoma had been looking at into her bookbag. Monoma looked at her like he was reading her mind. Like he knew she was having doubts about them, but he didn't say anything. "Alright," Mineta said, "see you on Monday, gorgeous." Momo didn't even try to stop herself from cringing. "Please don't call me that," she said, "and my eyes are up here."
She grabbed her backpack and walked off, not looking back. Her heart pounded as she crossed the parking lot to her car. She quickly got in, dumped her bag in the passenger seat, and sat back, sighing. And the day had been going so well. She was finally caught up with the work her new teachers assigned, had nailed her audition, and her 'friends' had asked her to hang back after school and help them review some notes from science.
She shook her head at herself and took out her phone, opening her best friend's contact. "I'm about to drive home, can you come over to my house? Some stuff happened and I wanna talk to someone about it," she typed out and sent. He replied almost immediately. "I'll be over in 20." Momo smiled and put her phone into her bag, then started driving home.
She was met by a figure sitting next to her driveway. Momo grinned at him as she got out of the car, "Hey Shoto!" "Hey," he said, getting up and walking over. He wore a plain white shirt and jeans and his red and white hair framed his eyes. He gave her a small smile. "Backyard?" she asked. He nodded. Momo grabbed her backpack and followed him through the gate that separated her front and backyard.
The backyard was huge, with flower boxes, trees that had been there forever, and a vegetable garden. Momo and Todoroki went straight for their usual spot, a magnolia tree overlooking the garden. Momo checked to make sure her bookbag was zipped up before climbing to some of the lower branches. They couldn't go very high, but inside the tree felt like a separate, isolated world.
Once situated in their usual spots, Todoroki turned to Momo. "Alright, so what happened?" he asked. He'd been at auditions, so she didn't have to go over everything, just what happened outside. She told him about meeting the two stage crew kids, Monoma insulting them, Jirou coming back, and Monoma and Mineta laughing about her being angry. She also told him about her doubts about them.
