*indigo's pov*
i woke up earlier than i had in awhile. school started earlier in california than it did in new york. i washed my face and brushed my teeth, pleased to find that my hair had curled nicely. my eyebrows were threaded and microbladed, so i didn't really need to do a lot to them, but my lifted eyelashes were starting to loose their tint so i put on some mascara and finished off the look with lip gloss and the slightest bit of highlighter. i put on some deodorant too. i don't sweat, and neither does jade or anyone else in our family, but i'm kind of a control freak about smelling good. i pop in some mint gum and spray my chanel no. 5 perfume before going to pick out some clothes.
i've never dressed up much for school. parties, nights out, sure. but not school, just because i'm there every day and i just want to be comfortable, especially because of dance. i dressed in some calvin klein sports leggings, an oversized gray quarter-zip pullover, nike socks, and airforce 1s. since it was my first day and i wasn't really going to get assigned a lot of work, so i grabbed a black gucci mini backpack. i sent out my snapchat streaks as a picture of the steering wheel of the audi, and connected my phone to the speakers.
i was bumping nicki minaj with my chanel sunglasses and iced coffee on as i pulled up to hollywood arts and parked the car in one of the parking spots. i was a bit worried about finding jade, but i figured she'd text me or something. besides, i could always just look at her bitmoji. fortunately, she was standing with her friends in the foyer.
"hey," i said, slinging an arm around her. i wasn't too worried about befriending the others. i've always been very charismatic, and i usually don't have any trouble making connections with people.
"hey," she said. "everyone, this is my cousin indigo."

robbie and i were debating whether shakira or beyonce was a better dancer when a blonde girl came up and slung her arm around jade. surprisingly, jade didn't rip into her.
"hey," said the blonde. she was really pretty. that was the first thing i noticed. she looked familiar, too.
"hey," said jade. "everyone, this is my cousin indigo."
"my name's indie," said the blonde, laughing. "i haven't gone by indigo in years."
"hey, indie," said cat.
everyone else chorused their greetings, but i was too focused on how her big round eyes and button nose worked so well with her cheekbones and pouty lips, and how pretty her laugh sounded. then i remembered that i'd seen her instagram before, on jade's phone. she was much prettier in real life. pictures couldn't capture how soft and shiny her hair looked, or how the way she carried herself was somehow relaxed and elegant at the same time.
"beck, you gonna say hi?" asked jade.
"oh," i said, feeling like an idiot. "hi."
"hey," she said, smiling at me. "what's your major?"
"acting, with a minor in singing," i said. "you?"
"dance with a minor in singing," she said. "i was a visual arts major in new york, but they don't offer that here."
"why'd you move?" i asked.
"modelling," she said. "i got signed to an agency here, so it didn't make much sense to keep travelling across the country for every shoot."
"i see," i said. i was about to ask her about modelling, but then i realized that everyone else was kind of watching us converse, so i decided to bring them in a little. "i'm sure you'll like it here. right, guys?"
