Warning: blood, description of a dead body
I'm concerned with how much they trust me. I don't know how I forgot how stupid the system is, but I have a gun digging uncomfortably into my back and Agent Olken and Kailo are just completely fine with this. I mean I know they are not entirely fine but they aren't jumping to take it away from me. I can feel their eyes on me from the rear view mirror and it burns painfully against my skin.
The city was bustling with excitement today and I wonder if they know what is going to go down in the new and improved building. Bad Omen made their mark on the world three years ago on the main interstate. There was no genuine motive other than causing trouble. My dad encountered them before but the most memorable moment was when they came to us and threatened us in our own home.
I was fourteen then. I learned to hide a body that night. Dominic came with his gang expecting to get money that my father owed or he'd take his payment in other forms. My dad, willing to do anything to get rid of the debt, offered up his children, as you do apparently. I remember what my father said to me and my brother right before they were going to take us. He said,
"Some people were made to poison this world and some people were made to suck that poison out, like an anti-venom. We are that anti-venom." He slipped a knife in our hands and although he didn't say it out loud we knew what he wanted. Bad Omen lost two men that night and they're still buried in the backyard of the hell hole I used to live in. Me and my brother dug their graves ourselves and laid dead animals overtop of them. If anyone were to dig up their graves and pull out the bone they would see animal bones before they made it to human bones.
When we arrived in front of Dominic's building I had two things on my mind. What would my brother look like with a bullet in his head and is Dominic already dead? Agent Kailo let me out of the back seat and both agents stuck tight to my sides as we walked through the revolving glass doors. Fancy.
"You can not say a word when we get in here, we'll take Dominic in for questioning and apprehend your brother if he's here," Agent Kailo turned to me and stared hard. "If you interfere we will stop you in the ways we know how."
"You mean violently. I think that's the word you're looking for. I'm here for one person and if I see him you won't be able to stop me," I told him looking around the reception that was oddly black and bland.
"Do not underestimate us. You will receive a punishment if you interfere," Agent Olken budded in with her two cents.
"Kinky. And oh please, if you can catch me, I'll even let you waterboard me. I heard the government likes that. Y'know, nothing like old fashioned torture." The Agents rolled their eyes and went up to the front desk.
My eyes roamed the building looking for exits subconsciously. One behind me, one on my left and right and two in front of me at the end of the hall. I shake my head and take a deep breath, I'm not on a mission. I don't need an escape route. Besides the exit routes I see three men on my left whose right legs seem to be much bigger than the left. They're shit at the concealing thing. I tap on Agent Kailo's shoulder as I turn away from the three men. He guides me to the front which is the exact opposite of what I wanted.
"Three gunmen on our left," I say, keeping my eyes forward but talking to both of the Agents. "I told you they'd be strapped."
"Yes, you're correct," Kailo said. "We're not here for them though, we just need Dominic." Agent Kailo still keeps an eye on them as they start to follow in behind us slowly. Acting as if they were going the same direction in the same place.
"You need to listen to me when I say things about illegal activity. It is my strong suit after all," I smile humorlessly at Agent Kailo. "You may not be here for them but they know you're a government agent. They're here for you."
