That was the last of what Nick remembered. Next thing he knew,

he was at the mercy of a beautiful maiden.

Beyond the Castle Walls

Nick gazed into the eyes of royalty, lost within its galaxy, on all fours. A toad held him down, by the base of his nape. He sat in awe.

Sunlight shone throughout the throne room, as bright as diamond flame, drenching them in an array of sunshine.

"Your Highness, we found this...boy lurking around the castle gardens." the Chief toad uttered, ushering the captive a few inches further.

"Your gardens." Another knight butted in.

The head toad cleared his throat, "As you know, such a crime is punishable by death. But, I will do what ever you please. What punishment do you think is suitable for this trespassing human?"

The princess sat up from her golden throne and ambled down the velvet steps of the room, causing the guards to bow down with respect. She continued to walk until she stood right in front of him.

Kneeling down, she touched his face. Her eyes began shifting downwards to where she lay her small hand. Nick, whom was caressed by the princess's gentle touch, observed the beauty before him.

What a merciful gaze. Her bulbous locks hung dormant from her head, swaying alongside the spring breeze. She was like the first stroke on a blank canvas.

A tender smile made its way onto her face, but it did not quite reach her eyes.

He continued to gape at this vista until her snort brought him to his senses.

She was giggling like a child on the dawn of Christmas.

She rose to her feet.

"Send him to the guest room. I'll talk to him later. The rest of you can investigate further into the recent attacks."

The knights were dumbfounded.

"Oh, and bring him some food too. I don't want our guest to leave on an empty stomach."

"Yes, Your Highness!"

The Chief dragged him towards the exit, not before the guest made eye contact with his savior.

She waved him a little goodbye, and he gladly returned it. With a swell of merriness, Nick followed the toads, feeling myriad emotions. Some notable ones being relief and excitement.

The castle was bold on the blue beyond. It stood there as if conjured from the storybook of a child.

Withdrawing from the palace portal, Nick advanced beyond the bridges of the alluring castle gardens, beneath the aglow gaze of the grinning sun, like the subtle sweep of a painter's brush. Much to his dismay, he was escorted with great vigor by the royal toads, who led him on his way towards his temporary home. He attempted to shake off his discomfort. In the course of his mini pilgrimage, he captured the very vista of nature, as breath-taking as the array of paint that were to drape from a portrait.
