~=PROLOGUE=~
The venom coursed through my veins, burning everything as it flowed with each heartbeat, the few that may have been my last. Medical lights flashed, blood colored my cinnamon-brown hair. Howls of pain swiftly mutated to rasps as my throat grew parched like ash. Voices of those surrounding me echoed in my ears as inchoherent mumbles. I came to the realization that the searing pain that encased my body would multiply when the toxin reached my lungs and heart.
Just as I began to feel it - an unrealistic, burning agony - someone whispered to me, making sure I understood it. A lucious, silken tone, "Verona?" it asked. I wnted to scream out, to protest, "That's not my name!" but only shreiks passed my lips. I fought back tears - unsuccessfully - not only from the experience, but also as memoies of the previous days flooded my thoughts.
I was such an idiot. All of it had been for nothing. They risked their lives to help, and how to I show my thanks? By being captured. No words would be able to describe how sorry I was. Xane, Aleera... Forgive me.
