Chapter 3- Her
It was finally Alice's birthday she was now a full fledged 17 year old. How did she start her day? With her waking up a half hour later than she should have. No breakfast for the birthday girl as she bolted out the door praying she wasn't gonna miss the buss. She knew if she was late Oliver was late as well and that couldn't happen with all the warnings he gets. She booked it across the street running with a speed of which felt like 50 miles per hour. She arrived at the bus stop in time surprisingly and that's when she saw-
her
She was standing with Oliver and Alice followed along staring for a bit. She wore mostly blue which matched her eyes and her skin was tan but still pinkish in a way. Her eyes were delicate like a flower in a summer breeze or an ocean with no waves. Her hair was like golden silk and it flowed down her back in a pretty braid. She had on a pink blouse and some jean shorts with a small flower design on them which made her appear like an angel the way her blouse flowed over her shorts. She was smiling and for some reason it caught Alice off guard. Her smile was brighter than any star she had ever seen. Maybe she was a moon or the sun?
Alice trying to bring herself back to reality meticulously walked over to them observing the new girl some more. For some reason she couldn't talk but her body was moving on its own. She tugged on her best friend's sweater sleeve and asked "Who is she?". Oliver smiled and replied " Mornin Birthday girl! This is the new exchange student Sophia! Sophia this is Alice be nice to her she's a special duck." Oliver said with a wink. "It's nice to meet you!" Sophia said with a thick Irish accent as she extended her hand. "Pleasures mine." Alice said nonchalantly as she shook her hand. Her hand was soft and delicate even more so than her appearance. Her eyes were not as childish as Oliver's but they were warm and it felt like she would accept you as a murderer.
Oliver looked at Alice with a smug smile and for some reason it made her heart stop. "Guess who owes someone 10 bucks!" He said proudly. "I- uh what?" Alice blinked a bit trying to figure out why her heart rate pounded in her ears.
" Sophia here plays Kiss Kiss my pet!.....You remember the bet right just because I didn't lose this time doesn't mean you can just skip out on it!". "
"Fine, fine damn on my birthday too?"
"Hey a deal is a deal! " He snickered
Alice rolled her eyes as she grabbed 10 bucks from her pocket and held it out for the devil's bastard. He swiped it off her with a gleeful smile which always made her want to protect him. The bus came and they all hopped on. There was one problem though.... Only two people can be seated in the special seat.
They dashed to their seat with the exchange student and looked at the 2 person seat in defeat. There wouldn't be enough room to be able to squeeze a third person in since the tire was there. They knew they couldn't make the new girl uncomfortable on her first day. One of them knew they would have to sit next to Kyle the biggest scumbag creep of the school. He was the creep who decided last year to "accidentally" sneak into the girls changing room while his dick just happend to be be out.
Oliver took her to the side for one second and looked at her with puppy dog eyes. That face....She had seen it on her clients all of the time when they were madly in love. An ache grew in her heart but she didn't know why. She could hear everything around her even with the headphones on. Every noise followed her heartbeat in an orchestra of agony. She looked up at him, her best friend in the whole wide world, and smiled the best she could and nodded at the seat. Oliver looked at her, gave her a hug and then took his seat. She choked back the lava pumping through her veins and sat down next to the class pervert. She turned her headphones all the way up.
" Man that must have been rough your little boyfriend doesn't need you anymore but if you need a friend-" The creep stared at her like she was prey
"Touch me and you will see how ugly I can get." she grabbed onto her phone harshly wanting to disappear from the world.
" You might be ugly but you can't see anything in the dark sweetheart. I am always open." He snickered at his remark then looked at his phone.
She heard the word and smiled a desperate smile. 'I am ugly' she reminded herself in her thoughts. ' I always will be and that is okay. I will be an angel of love because that is the one thing in this world I am good at. I don't need a relationship I need my one friend in this world to be happy.' She was now determined to make sure she sees her best friend happy no matter what. She relaxed herself and flowed with her music until they arrived at school.
They hopped off the bus together the two of them laughing. Alice smiled at them even though something inside her was begging to run. Why was she so upset? She finally was able to get rid of those feelings when Oliver and her were walking together alone while the principal guided Sophia around the school. Oliver would have done it if he was not dangerously close to failing the school year. He was beaming while walking down the hall like he had just discovered the cure to all the bad in the universe.
" She's amazing she likes animals and she plays the bells. She must be an angel. I have never seen anyone play bells that well except for Santa! " He cheered and had a childish wonder expression on his face.
" I take it you like her?" She said with a snicker but deep down she was wondering why the pang in her chest stopped.
" I- maybe..." He looked embarrassed and flustered at the thought of them being together. " I am thinking about it but I have no clue about romance and that type of thing. Plus we have only known each other for a day and if I learned anything from Disney love at first sight usually ends in getting cursed." He was serious about the statement too.
" You should make sure you make sure you like her before you ask her out too. You don't wanna lead the poor girl on." She stated quiet bluntly.
" Yea I know..." He said trailing off. " It won't be like last time I promise!" He puffed his chest out and stood like some super hero with his chains rattling and his eyeliner slightly smudged.
" Jessica was a sweetheart I don't understand how you messed that up." She joked.
" She hated dogs! Who in the hell is sweet and hates dogs!?" He looked offended and ran his hands through his dark black hair.
" Not everyone want to live in a zoo dork. Some people like not constantly getting hair everywhere." She laughed. "That's why ducks are superior at least you can make quills outta feathers."
He dramatically gasped pretending he was hurt. "How are we even friends??!!" They busted out into a small giggle fit and went to class.
Now she wondered as she was dozing off in class 'Why wasn't I ever upset when he was dating Jessica?" She thought about it then shrugged it off. Maybe she was just grumpy and tired. Yeah that was probably be it.
It has to be....
