It's been a few days and Hinawa has been heavily monitored by the hospital....I haven't left the waiting room not once since he's been in a coma. I haven't slept in over 48 hours, but they won't let anybody see him....the team has been answering infernal calls but the moment they aren't they sit with me in the waiting room. Arthur and Shinra have even stopped there incessant play fighting for once.
I lay my head in the palm of my hands feeling the vibrations of hunger,sleep deprivation and worry wash over me.
"God it sure does smell like a hospital in here" Shinra comments.
That's when Captain Obi shoots him a icy cold glare one that I could feel but didn't care enough to pay attention to.
We are silent in the waiting room nothing but nurses talking in a full roar and the click click clicking of a keyboard. But all I can think about was his eyes. The way he looked at me before he lost consciousness....like he didn't know if he would wake up again.
Just then his personal doctor walked through the door. As he approached us I couldn't stand quick enough tripping over my own feet to stand. That's when he says it the words that wash my nerves into relief.
"He's awake...." I could feel my heart doing back flips but there was still a part of me that was angry, confused, and worried.
"Listen everybody he's extremely impressionable right now he's hopped up on meds so I suggest only one of you goes back until he comes down from the meds in a few hours" the doctor preaches to us.
They all look at me with a blank stare...
"Obi you c-" I began before he cut me off.
"(Y/N) will be the only one to see the Lieutenant right now and once they come back to the fire station I want no one in there proximity so he can heal !!!! Got it !!!!???" Obi roared to the crew.
"But captain I already made the lieutenant cookies and-" Maki began loudly but trialed off as she saw Obi stare at her with the fire of hell in his eyes.
"Yes captain" they all say as they leave and head back to the fire station.
Before Obi leaves he looks down at me gently.
"I want the old Hinawa back and I think the only way to get that is with you...." he said lowly before patting me on my back and leaving.
The doctor began escorting me down a series of hallways that seemed like a maze or at least I thought so....I'm so tired I don't even know anymore.
He points to the room before giving me a smile and walking away.
I stand in front of the curtain my heart racing.
What if I wasn't the face he wanted to see ? What if he doesn't remember me ? What if he wishes he never came to rescue me?
I put my hand out and touch the thin fabric before pulling it back to see Hinawa notebook in hand, glasses crooked, and looking up directly at me.
"(Y/N)!" he stammers
He immediately jumps at the sight of me throwing his shirt on and trying to stand .
I run over to him and push him back on the bed gently.
"Hinawa please I'm not visiting you as a fire soldier" I say looking deeply into his orbs.
That's when I realized how long it hand been since I had even just touched his skin. I got goosebumps all over my arms and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up as he grabbed my arm bringing me closer to him. I sat across from him on the bed in a criss cross applesauce position.
I laugh to myself as I look at him.
"What could you possibly be working on? You just came out of a coma..."
He smirked but just slightly.
" The expense reports from last week I couldn't finish...." he lightly chuckled almost embarrassed.
"You not finishing paperwork ? That's very unprofessional of you Hinawa ." I laughed and play punched his shoulder.
Then he smiled for the very first time a genuine smile not a typical Hinawa smile. The kind you write home about. We broke from our laughter as I asked him.
"What made you so busy you couldn't finish" I asked through my laughter.
I could instantly feel a shift in the room when I asked him that as he looked at me through his crooked glasses.
"I .... I was too busy thinking about you" he said lowly not wavering his strong eye contact.
I leaned forward his lips inches away from mine ...I could taste the anticipation....
