7: Control It

The wind rustled in my hair. I was here. I had no help, because I had run away from my friends. My only friends. So there was no one to help me, no one to help me confront my fears, no one to help me fight. Nothing.

I knew I had to start somewhere. I cupped my hands to control the fire burning up in me, and literally, on my hands. The Dragonfish had an evil smirk on his face. But somehow, I knew what he was feeling. He was confident. He was ready for the fight ahead. But, deep down, he wasn't sure of himself. He was scared.

Slowly, slowly, I strode towards his throne. He was still smirking, but I sensed that as I came closer, he got more and more scared.

"Hello, Kathryn", he said. I noticed how he didn't call me "pumpkin" anymore. Maybe he was scared of calling me that, now that he realized how powerful I was.

"It's you", I said nastily. "Why did you want me to come?"

"Ah, yes. You were born as my enemy! I was part of the army for Aroma. When my father died, I became the leader. But then, ah, you were born in your little, oh, your little 1800s home, and you were born with that oh-so-special power of yours, and you were destined to become the queen. But, of course, you were too young, so the people chose Cora and John, the 'nicest'"-he used air quotes- "people in the land. Now, of course, then, I took over their minds, or, whatever you want to call it, and then you had to come and ruin it for me!" He got very angry. "So, now it is very simple. I need to kill you, because I am jealous of you. "

"You think that is a good reason for you to kill me?" I questioned. "You dare confront me, your worst enemy? What powers do you have?"

"M-hm. So that is how you are going to play..." he replied smartly. But I sensed an attack was coming.

The Dragonfish snapped his fingers, and ropes came shooting out. But I jumped aside, just barely missing them. I cupped my hands, getting ready to shoot a fireball at him, my eyes glowing red. Then I threw it like a baseball towards him. The ball got him on the shoulder (or what I think is the shoulder). He screeched terribly. Guards came in from both sides, but the Dragonfish said to them, quite painfully:

"Dismissed. You're all dismissed. I'll take care of this by myself."

The fact that the Dragonfish was not scared to take me on alone was surprising, so I told myself that I

would work my hardest.

I cupped my hands together once more, while the Dragonfish snapped his fingers and, this time, ropes on fire came out of the walls. I dodged them quickly, but then I felt that...I could control them because there was fire on them! So I made the ropes swing towards the Dragonfish. Luckily, he wasn't paying attention, so they got him in the head, and he screamed. "Aaarrrggghhh! I will get you, girl!"

This guy was furious with me. Maybe I should've left then, but I thought of a smart move. I would shoot him with a fireball, and while he was screaming or shrieking or whatever, I would sneak to behind his throne, and blast him with fire on his back. I hoped that that would get him wounded.

So I cupped my hands and hit him in the face with the fireball. He screamed. Then I ran, as fast as I could, around to the back of his throne. I opened up my hands, and pushed...and pushed... and pushed. The Dragonfish screamed, as horrible as ever, and I kept pushing my hands and fire and lava kept coming out of them.

The Dragonfish crumpled into a heap on the floor.

"But why was he so easy to defeat?" I asked myself, knowing there was no answer to the question at the moment.

Melody, her aunt and uncle, Andrew, Angelina, John, Allison and Chloe all followed my footprints (now getting very faint).

"She must have gone to the Dragonfish's lair", said Chloe.

They walked to his lair. They heard some blasts inside, then everything was silent. They walked in.

I saw all my friends standing in the cave entrance. "Guys!" I cried, running towards them. "I can't believe it's you!" I hugged everyone. "I defeated the Dragonfish."

Everyone seemed so happy. They were amazed. They were proud of me. They could not believe that I had done it...all by myself!

Melody hugged me. "Thank you", she said. "Thank you for everything."

"My pleasure", I replied. "I'm glad I could help you."

Now I asked myself how in the world I would get back home.

But just then, guards came in. They were armed with metal shields, clothes, and swords, and I knew they wanted to fight for their leader.

And I was ready, and so was everyone else.

They all grabbed shields and swords from nearby suits of armor. Except for Allison. She cupped her hands, just like I do when I make a fireball. But she threw an iceball instead! An iceball!

"I'll tell you later", she whispered to me. I just stared at her, my jaw dropped, and nodded.

We fought with all our might. I ended up blowing up five soldiers at one time, and Allison froze some of them (which was really impressive, considering it was her first time fighting with her powers). Melody and the others sword-fought, and it looked like John really enjoyed it.

All the soldiers were soon defeated, and everyone agreed that we would stay outside for the campfire tonight. So we all came out of the cave, and we all felt ready to go to sleep.

I looked up at the stars that night, thinking about what I would do when I was queen again. "We are going to have a free country, like I always dreamed of America to be."
