Dare You To Move - Switchfoot
This song is a challenge. It dares you to get up and keep going no matter how hard life may get. It tells of better days and forgiveness. It offers a hope to those who need it most. One of those people is me.
In March of this past year, my family was in a rough spot. We were battling with crazy health stuff. We were waiting to hear whether or not he had cancer.
I would put this song on every morning as soon as I got up. It challenged me and gave me the strength to get out of bed. Ultimately it was God giving me the strength, but He was using this song to help. On March 19th, we found out that Josh did in fact have cancer.
It was Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. It's similar to that of Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars. (He had Osteosarcoma though) I was crushed. But this song remained. This song continued to be a challenge. It continued to push me out of bed and into the school that reminded me of my brother.
It pushed me to listen to God through the dark times. To reach out to people, because they all cared. This song protected me. I pushed it away. I've been struggling with some serious stuff the past few months. (Stuff I won't go into much detail with here) But crappy stuff.
This song continues to remind me to keep fighting.
"Maybe Redemption has stories to tell,
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell."
Those lines mean a lot to me. The fact that God forgives me no matter what, and he loves me at my worst. I need that reminder often, and this song provides it.
Life isn't easy. Anyone who tells you differently is lying, or hasn't experienced enough of life to know its difficulties.
But there is hope beyond this life. There is someone who died for us.There i someone who loves us. His name is Jesus, and I owe my life to him.
I hope this song can ring throughout centuries, reminding people that there is joy through the pain, love through the sin, and hope beyond the storm.
