If this was the truth, I couldn't bear to hear it. All these years, I had been lied to. Been kept out of a big part of my life. And now the only reason I discovered it was because of a big tragic accident. My life was over as I knew it. All because of the words...
Maybe I should start from the beginning.

Everything started out as a dark and rainy Saturday morning. It was the usual routine, grab some breakfast, and then I was off to Art class. On the way back from class though, something had happened. It seemed harmless at first; he had done this multiple times before, what could possibly go wrong?
Dad takes his hand off the steering wheel for a quick second, to turn on the radio to his favorite news station, and then it all goes downhill from there. A giant Coca-Cola truck slides just the tiniest bit on a puddle, but that's enough for it to come flying our way. I scream, but the last thing I see is red.

I am in the emergency room, in critical condition. I feel like I'm only half-there, I can see and hear everything that is going on around me, but I can't seem to get the strength to move my arm, talk, or do anything to show the doctors crowding around me that I am alive.
I can already tell my leg is broken by the way it twists around backwards. A kind-looking nurse puts some blankets under my leg to elevate it, and puts a freezing ice pack on my calve. She smiles faintly, as if she thought I was a goner.
That just made me even more upset about the whole situation. No, I couldn't go now. There were still people who cared about me out there, and I would fight through this for them. Mom, Dad, little Fiona and Freddy. In fact, I bet they're in the waiting room, freaking out about me right now, I thought to myself.
But then I realized they weren't there. Because Dad had died in the crash. Because Mom was taking Fiona and Freddy to the movies. If someone called her, she wouldn't get it until it was over. This just made me realize how real this all was.
