Hello everyone! This is a small part of my book 'My Brother Archangels' which is a BTS FF. Read it and comment what you think of this!
Excerpt from book:
This is not a good idea. Never was. Never will be.
Still, I let them all drag me into this.
Now, as I stared at the colorful lines showing up on the monitor, making waves at every vibration I made, my mind agreed that this really was the worst idea ever.
Can immortal beings convincingly fool human lie-detecting technology? I'm not eager to know.
The human in front of me coughed to gain my attention. I slowly looked up and stifled a groan on seeing the glass screen behind him. Even though it's a one-way mirror, that really doesn't stop me from seeing the person who got me into all this mess wave cheerfully from back there.
"Miss?"
"What is it?" I snapped, my head already throbbing from that headband-thingy they had put around my head.
"Well, let us start with some basic questions."
"Whatever." I yawned.
"What is your name?" He took out a pen and started scribbling on his notepad.
"Which one do you want?"
He looked up, his face contorted with confusion, "Pardon?"
"Humans have many names, no?" I stuck out my fingers and started counting, "Names given by their parents, nicknames, workplace names, code names, gaming names-"
He hastily interrupted, "I only require your real name."
Real name?!
"Well, I'm supposed to be called Azzy this time." I stared at the monitor, daring it to say that I'm lying, "Of course, I prefer to be called Deat-"
"Please answer in one word."
Wow.
He had the audacity to interrupt Death twice. Someone give him a medal and a VVIP ticket to Hell.
"Azrael."
Yeah, I know that's not a common Korean name. Or a girl name.
But it is my name, nonetheless.
He looked surprised and glanced at the monitor, probably thinking that I was lying.
The alarm didn't go off.
"Um, okay... what about your full name?"
"Lee Azr-" My eyes widened as the alarm went off like crazy. Say what? That's the name I'm supposed to carry for my time here!
This is a problem...
"Please refrain from lying. Well, let me ask again - what is your full name?"
I stared at him and snorted, "Trust me, it's too long for me to even remember half of it."
Not to mention that it includes intimidating titles and stuff.
He still tried to get it out of me for a frickin' five minutes before giving up. Stubborn humans. I glanced sideways to see my good-for-nothing Commander-in-Chief dying of suppressed laughter while wiping fake tears from her eyes.
I rolled my eyes. Drama Queen.
"Give your nationality."
Um, heavenly being?
I stared at him with an expressionless face, while my mind went on full panic mode. I obviously can't name a single country on the Earth map!
But... I glanced at the human, who looked pretty much done with his job.
He can.
"Say, do I look American?" I asked him, praying that the shields were still there.
"No..."
"Then?"
"Um, you look Korean."
Good job Father. Your ridiculous powers are finally working.
The wind suddenly increased in the windowless room, wailing a 'How~can~you~' in my ear that I ignored. The interrogator, on the other hand, looked thoroughly spooked out.
"Well then, please write that down."
He did so without a single word. Howling wind can have a major effect, it seems? It'd be lovely if the wind blew every time he asked a question.
The wind abruptly died out at that thought. Of course He wants me to do this the hard way.
"O-Okay... your age?"
There it is - the question that's going to be hard to dodge.
"16."
The alarm promptly disagreed to that and went off like crazy. He frowned at me and tapped on the writing board impatiently.
Boi, do you know that I can take your soul in a heartbeat?
It'd been over half an hour now, but the lie detector was yet to agree to any of my responses. I had tried '14', '15', '17', '18' and '19' and finally got angry and started counting from 0. Still no luck.
"Please stop playing aroun-"
I turned towards him, my eyes a dull shade of red - making him shut up, "Do you seriously think I'm lying? I've crossed 50 in my counting and it is still blaring. How old do you think I am - 60?!"
The alarm again started singing its chorus while my interrogator grimaced, "Probably not... okay, maybe the device is malfunctioning-"
"Probably you asked her the wrong question, Ahn-ssi."
Who's that?
I looked around for the source of this new voice and noticed a figure sitting hidden in the shadows pooling around the door.
Funny, I never heard anyone come in.
"Sunbae-nim! You gave me a heart attack! What's with you and shadows?" My interrogator looked clearly startled at his senior's sudden appearance.
The senior officer likes shadows?!
"Oh, don't mind my presence." The other waved dismissively, "Please, do continue from the last question."
"All right... Azr- Azzy-ssi," It was no news that he was finding my name difficult to pronounce, "What is your age?"
The new entrant seemed to find my name intriguing, as he sat up and leant forward on hearing it.
"I told you before... it's 16."
My friend alarm started serenading in its high-pitched voice.
The interrogator turned towards the other, "Sunbae-nim, maybe the detector is going haywir-"
"No, it's not." He retorted before turning to me, "Say, Azzy-ssi, what did you say your age is?"
I gritted my teeth, "It's 16."
He pulled out the device's plug before the alarm could start again.
"And," He smirked, "How many zeroes did you leave out?"
"I..."
I looked at the glass screen, only to get alarmed out of my mind. Cordelia wasn't there anymore.
"She's not there, is she?" The mystery figure slowly stood up.
What did I just get myself into?
That's it for now, lovelies! Do give this book lots of love as well.
