It was two months before graduation when I received an acceptance letter from my choice college,The University of Cambridge.They awarded me a science scholarship that allowed me to attend for free, boarding and all.
"Troy, come look at this!" I was surprised and enthusiastic.My choice college had chosen ME!
"What is this Kait?" his eyes widened and a smile appeared on his face.
"Congrats!" his arms wrapped around me in a sincere embrace.
"Are you going to accept their offer?" I looked at him. Was he really asking me that?
"Of course, Its a free ride to college! Why wouldn't I?" I looked at him surprised at his response.
I walked outside to a silver BMW that was parked near the curb. I go in and we drove home. I felt like I was about to explode of happiness. I couldn't contain it any longer. On the way home we stopped by the hospital.
We arrived at the hospital and mom parked the car.
"I will wait out here for you,Honey" her voice was gentle and calming.
"Thanks Mom!" I shut the door and walked towards the entrance I knew so well. It had been a while since I had last been here. This place held many memories. I walked up the stairs and approached the help desk that sat in the middle of the room.
"Kaitlyn?" the nurse approached me and gave me a gentle hug.
"How are you? How have you been?" she said as she sat back down in her chair behind the desk.
"I've been doing great. I got my acceptance letter back from Cambridge." happiness filled my body as I began to tell her the news.
"And? What did they say?" she always had this smile that could make you smile.
"They have accepted me and I have been awarded the Science scholarship which allows me to attend for free!" I could feel my face heat up and the smile on my face began to widen.
"Kaitlyn... That is amazing. I am so proud of you sweetie! Congratulations." she got up and she gave me another hug.
"Is Jake still in the same room?" she walked me over to his room.
"Jake you have a visitor" I heard he say as she motioned me to come in.
I walked into the room and my eyes gravitated towards him. His face turned to face me but after a moment his head turned away.
"I will leave you two alone." she closed the door and went back to her desk.
"What are you doing here?" he made it clear he was still mad.
"I came to visit you and tell you some good news." I was still trying to maintain the happiness that I had built up all day.
"I dont want you here!" his head was still turned towards the window.
"I'm sorry for what I said that night. I was angry and I didn't mean what I said." Tears filled my eyes. These tears were not just out of sadness but also out of anger.
"Get out!" the tone of his was strong and to the point. He meant it.
I opened the door and walked out. Before shutting the door I looked back to find him facing me. I looked back and closed the door.
That was the last time I saw him.
