Sixth grade. You're new to the school. The seventh and eighth graders look at you like you're trash but, yet you think you're the best thing since sliced bread. The bottom of the social food chain is where sixth graders stay and live. Get used to it.
This is it. I'm finally starting middle school. I need to make friends. Elementary school was so lonely. I had one friend and now she's at a completely different school. I tried talking to her over the summer, but we eventually just stopped talking.
Losing a friend is never easy. When we stopped talking I fell apart. I know, I'm talking about this other girl. I know you're ready to meet my first savior.
It's been a week. I still try and talk to the same people I came from elementary with, but they don't want to be bothered with me. I tried to sit with them at lunch today. They told me to stop following them and moved away from me. These are people I've known since kindergarten. Thank god lunch is over. I couldn't stand sitting in there by myself. But then I go to phys ed, to sit in there by myself. So, was getting out of the cafeteria even worth it? I see all these people talking with their friends. Lucky them. "Hey!" I look around. "Hey you!" I finally found the face that the voice belongs to. "I'm Catie!", the girl says, quite loudly. She comes and sits next me, making herself at home. "Carter.", I tell her. Catie cocks her head to the side like a sad puppy, "Why you siting by yourself?" I just shrugged my shoulders. I'm not really in the mood for people today. I just want to go home, raid my fridge and then go take a nap, but Catie sat with me the entire time and vowed she'd get me to talk. We apparently were friends after all.
For the life of me, I never could understand why Catie stayed with me. When you say nothing, most people usually just walk away. But, I'm glad she stayed because I have no idea where I'd be without her.
