"Carmilla, please calm down." I barely recognize that Laf was talking as I feel my heart clench. I try to take a deep breath, but my lungs feel like they've closed so it ends in a coughing fit.
"Would you be calm if you were about to get married?!" I hiss, my hand clapping onto my pounding chest.
"Alright." Laf sighs and pulls me up by my arms. They pull my head down until our eyes meet. "Laura is madly in love with you." She reassures me for the hundredth time. "I'm sure she's panicing right now with Perry. In less than an hour, everything will be fine, and all that's going to change is there's going to be a ring on your finger."
I take another deep breath and finally succeed. I nod my head and plop back into my seat. "Are you sure I can't see Laura? I'll calm down if I can see her."
Laf smiles as they goes back to fixing my bow tie. "Not my rule. It was Laura's idea to begin with."
I sigh and lean back in my chair. "It was also her idea to have a huge wedding. We could have just eloped, or whatever."
"Actually, I think Perry put that idea in Laura's head. You can blame her for that."
"Great. . . ."
Lafontaine finishes fidgeting with my clothes and takes a step back. "Alright . . . you are good to go." They look down at their watch and sucks in a deep breath. "Just in time, too." They look back up at me with a worried look. "You good?"
I take a deep breath and nod. "I'm good. . . . I'm about to marry the love of my life . . . for the rest of my life."
"Carmilla, you'll be fine. . . . You have your vows?"
I tap the side of my head and nod. "Yup."
"Good. Then let's go."
Laf and I walk out of the bedroom and down the hallway to the back door.
Laura wanted to get married at her father's house. The house itself was extravagant all on its own. Now with white rose pedals strewn all over the ground and a wedding arch in the backyard, it was . . . amazing. White lawn chairs were arranged in rows in front of the arch. A small orchestra was sitting of to the side, waiting for everything to start.
Everything was planed to the t. After we said the 'I do's' we would move to the large tent by the house where all of the food and dancing was going to take place. Then, Laura and I would take off and fly into the sunset to Greece where we would spend two weeks on our honeymoon in marital bliss.I barely knew anyone at my own wedding. Most of the people were Laura's friends from her childhood, or relatives. I wasn't really sure why I did it, but I asked Kirsch to be my best man.
Danny and Perry were Laura's bridesmaids, and Laf was her brides-person, even though she was helping me at the moment.Laf leads me to the alter where Kirsch was standing with the priest. They push me up next to Kirsch.
"Hey, dude." He whispers to me. "You look rocking, man."
"Thanks." I sigh. My nerves were to high to give him a snarky comeback. "Got my ring?"
"Oh shit. . . . I knew I was forgetting something."
