Chapter 11

Everywhere I walk people stare, laugh and talk behind my back. But the only person who hasn’t said anything Besides Carmen, Gretchen and Max, is Trevor. He just watches. I knew he was actually my true best friend in that group. Because if he wasn’t he would be acting like everyone else. I go to my locker and drop off my books then head outside to Max’s car. I lean on the hood and wait until he comes out. “Hey.” He smiled while walking over to the car. I grab his arm and spin him around. I leaned him against the car and begin to kiss his soft lips. “What’s that for?” He mumbled threw my lips. “I missed you.” I mumbled back. I let go and got inside of the car. He gets in and starts the car up then takes off. “How was the rest of your day?” I asked. “Like every day at school. But a little more harsh. That’s ok though. Since I had you.” He smiles. “Where are we even going to?” I asked. We are going to your grandmas. But we have to be back by 10 tonight. That’s what your mom told me.” He responded. “You should let me drive then. Because you are a slow driver.” I laugh. “I am not.” He says fiercely. “You are. You drive like an old woman.” “Really?” He says and pushes on the gas. I fall back into my seat. “Ok, not that fast!” I shout over the wind. “What? I can’t hear you!” He shouted back. “SLOW DOWN!” I yelled. “Thank you.” He smiles. I shake my head. We got onto the highway and start heading down to my grandmas.

We pull into the driveway and park. Max’s little sister comes running out. “MAX!” Yelled Cassie “Hey!” He yelled back and caught her while she jumped into his arms. “Do you like it here?” He asked her. “Yeah, I went to beach last night.” She responded. “Come on. I’ll show you where the best place in the house is.” I tell Cassie. “Ok.” She grabs onto my hand and I take her to the roof top deck. I open the door onto the roof and her eyes got real big. “OH MY GOD, THIS IS AMAZING!” She yelled. “Don’t come up here alone though. Because it is dangerous…. Well when you get older you can.” I responded.  “You can see all the way out through the ocean.” She smiled. “If you had binoculars, you can see the dolphins.” I smiled back.  “I need to get some!” She said in excitement. “Are you doing ok?” I asked. “Yeah, yesterday was just too over rated. But I’ll get over it.” She responds.  “Good.” I smiled back. “You ready to go back downstairs?” I asked. “Yeah.” She walks to the door and heads down the stairs. I go look for Max and see that he is in the living room talking to his mom. So I go find my grandma.

“Hey grandma.” I say while walking into the kitchen. “Hey baby.” She says and kissed me on the cheek. “Do you want any cookies?” She added. I walk over and pick one off the plate and sit on top of the island. “How’d your father take it yesterday morning?” She asked. “It was terrible. But he changed his mind after what happened at Max’s house last night.” I responded. “How is he taking that?” She asked worried. “He’s doing ok. I took him on top of a roof in Charleston last night to get his mind off things. It worked. I mean don’t get me wrong, I know he still thinks about it because it happened last night but he hit his dad over the head with a vase. That image will be in his head for a long time.” I responded.  “Watch over him and protect him. Then he will be alright.” She smiles. “Will do grandma.” I say and grab another cookie. “Are you guys staying for dinner?” She asked. “Um, that is something you have to ask Max. I don’t know if we are or not.” I responded. “Well, I’ll just go ask Max for myself then.” She says. Max comes walking into the kitchen. “Ask me what?” Asked Max. “Are you guys staying for dinner?” Grandma asked. “No, I have something planed for Zach.” He responds. I look up from eating my cookie. “You are taking me to dinner?” I asked. “Yes.” He smiled and walked over to grab a cookie. “How lovely. Here, take this and go somewhere nice.” Grandma says while reaching in her purse. “Oh grandma you don’t have to do that.” I say. “Nonsense! You guys deserve it. Defiantly Max deserves it. You used to bully Max. Now he gets to bully you.” She smiles. Max starts to laugh. “Shut up.” I say and throw a cookie at him. He kept laughing. “He is a nerd grandma, don’t listen to him.” I demanded. “Well that nerd is bullying the jock. Look who the ass is now.” She laughs. I look straight ahead with a dull look in my face. “So not funny.” I said. Max walks out of the kitchen and back into the living room. “You like him a lot don’t you?” Asked grandma. “You can say that.” I responded. “I see the way you look at him. You fallen for him like your father fell for your mother. You and your father have this look in your eye of passion when you are around someone you truly love. And I see that in you when you look at Max.” “Really?” I ask. “Well I wouldn’t be telling you this if you didn’t. I can tell you Love that boy. And you guys are going to be together for a very long time.” She says while pointing at me. “I guess you are right grandma. I mean he is perfect. I never felt like this for anyone in my life. Never. He like, makes me happy and every time I can be myself around him. When I’m around him it’s like the world ends and it is nothing but me and him.” I say while blushing. “That what I said about your grandpa, but then he died from an aneurism.” She says. “Grandma!” I shout. “What?” She asked. “You act like you don’t care when you say it like that.” I laugh. “Well, what can I say? I have had plenty men in my lifetime to not care about them anymore.” She laughs and takes a drink from her wine. “Grandma, you sound like a whore.” I laugh. She leans against the counter and says, “Oh honey I was. A big one at that. I’m just happy nothing happened to me. Well except this one time in high school, I got kidnapped. But that turned out to be your grandpa, and we ended up marrying and were together for 23 years.” She says. I look at her in disgust. “Grandma, I think you have had enough wine.” I say and walk over to grab it. She slaps my hand and says, “What would make you say that?” “Well let’s see when you are drunk you talk about everything.” I pointed out. “Oh.” She says and starts to laugh. I roll my eyes and begin to laugh. “Hey, you ready?” Asked Max. “Yeah, let’s go before my grandma gets more drunk and spread secrets.” I laugh. We get into the car and drive off. “So where are we going for dinner?” I asked. “It is a surprise.”
