Oliver Wood and Marcus Flint had their destiny awaiting them long before they ever had the chance to meet. It's not that they disliked each other personally, it was all just part of the family feud.

Like the Montagues and Capulets, the Woods and the Flints had been feuding for three generations. Oliver's grandfather, Barclay Wood, would often look back on his epic battles with Eulius Flint during the meetings of the Gobstones club. His father, Irving, once played a Wizards Chess game with Simon Flint that went on for two days (this particular game ended in a draw, as the board was knocked over when the two resorted to fisticuffs). Fated enemies since the day they were born, Marcus Flint and Oliver Wood were bound to follow in their families' footsteps. Their competition took place on the quidditch pitch.

Almost exact opposites, the only thing the two boys had in common was their passion for the sport. At Hogwarts, Flint took on the role of a chaser and Wood, the role of a keeper. As you can guess, this didn't work out too well, especially for Flint's clavicle and Wood's jaw. The first match they played against each other ended both of them in the hospital wing, mending bones and getting stitched.

The competition never stopped. Out on the quidditch pitch, within the corridors, and during classes, the two boys could not stop bickering and as the years went on, things only got worse, especially when Wood took over as captain of the Gryffindor team and Flint was appointed the same position in Slytherin.

Oliver built his team on hard work and determination. Flint on the other hand wasn't beyond a bit of cheating to get the job done. No matter what, however, the two just couldn't seem to get along. Flint wished to have nothing to do with Oliver and Oliver wished to have nothing to do with Flint. Flint's sister, Marcella, however, was a whole different story.
