It was a beautiful day out. How could the Grayson family not spend the day outdoors?

Dick and his wife Y/N took their daughter to the local playground after they had a nice breakfast together. It was the first day the weather had been nice enough to take her outside to run around and play on all of her favorite equipment at the park. It was breezy. Just breezy enough that Y/N wore a light cardigan and every time the wind blew it messed up Dick's hair. His wife couldn't help but giggle and run her fingers through it to push his wavy black hair back every time it got in his eyes.

As he watched his wife and daughter on the swings, swinging next to one another, Dick snapped a picture of them smiling at each other on his phone. His little girl was almost five years old and he still couldn't believe how much she looked like her mom. And how lucky she was to look like her, as her mother was truly beautiful. They had the same, sparkling E/C eyes as they laughed with each other.

His heart was so full of love. How did he get so lucky?

They spent hours enjoying the outdoors until the little one announced she was hungry and her parents realized it was time for lunch.

Dick and Y/N agreed they would walk to one of the local restaurants down the street for lunch. Another special event for their little girl, who didn't often get to have these days where both of her parents were completely free from their obligations. Her parents loved her more than anything, but with Dick's duties to Bludhaven's police department and the Batfamily, and Y/N's full-time job, their life could be quite hectic. Her babysitter, Papa Alfred, was who she spent most of her days with after preschool.

As they walked down the sidewalk, Y/N reached over for Dick's hand and intertwined her fingers with his. The couple smiled at each other. The wind blew and Y/N smiled as she pushed some hair out of her eyes. Her E/C eyes shone in the sunlight as she looked back to their daughter, skipping down the sidewalk in front of them. Dick just couldn't stop looking at his wife. He was just so full of love.

"Sweetheart?" Y/N called.

Her daughter didn't answer her. Dick felt her nails dig into his hand.

When Dick looked ahead, his daughter wasn't there. He felt his chest tighten up as his wife continued to call for her.

Y/N let go of Dick's hand and ran ahead, still calling for their beloved little girl. He followed behind calling for her as well.

Suddenly, Y/N stopped when they reached a dark alleyway.

Dark? Why was it so dark? How long had they been running for her? How long had she been gone? How far away were they?

Dick's heart was hammering in his chest. His blood felt cold with fear in his veins. He reached out for his wife but, for some reason, couldn't feel her under his hands.

Y/N walked into the alley, screaming for their daughter. Dick followed suit.

There, the parents found their daughter surrounded by several shadowy figures. They were holding her so tight she could barely move. The only sound they could hear were her shrill, terrified shrieks that horrified her parents.

Dick tried to speak, but words never came. He tried to move, but his muscles were stiff. Why weren't his fighting instincts taking over? He had to save is precious daughter and protect his wife!

Y/N was begging for her daughter's life. She was sobbing and pleading franticly. Why wasn't Dick doing anything? Who were these people holding his child captive in front of him? Why couldn't he see their faces?
