Walking into the Salvatore house, you frowned, seeing its disheveled state and your friends all standing around talking to an upset Caroline who was angrily picking up solo cups.
"What the hell happened here?" You questioned, seeing the balloons strung up, a food table that looked as if it was attacked by a family of bears, and the banners which had mostly fallen down.
It looked like the aftermath of a frat party.
Your girlfriend's head shot towards you with a frown, and suddenly she was stomping her way over to you crossing her arms. "Where were you? I spent a lot of time on this party, and you didn't even turn up!".
Looking around once again, it dawned on you, this was a party or had been a party, and somehow you had missed it. "What party Care?" you asked before the blonde froze suddenly and gasped.
"Oh my! I forgot to tell you," She whispered through her fingers that she had put over her mouth in shock. "Uh, surprise!" she cheered, glaring at your friends, urging them to join in.
"Surprise," they all called, laughing at each other, realizing what had actually happened and that you hadn't just decided to blow off Caroline's party.
"You can say that again," Damon snorted as Elena hit him on the arm. It was just a great example of how your girlfriend was so caring but still so very forgetful that she threw you an impressive birthday party but also forgot to tell you about it.
"So you threw a party for me and then forgot to invite me to it?" You laughed as Caroline nodded slowly, her eyes still wide in shock before throwing her arms around you, blubbering about how she was a terrible girlfriend.
Gently pulling away from her, you wiped the tears from her face with a smile, "Did you at least save me some cake?" Caroline's eyes quickly widened in excitement as she took your hand and pulled you into the kitchen.
Leaving you by the counter, Caroline pulled an amazingly decorated cake that was so over the top you knew your girlfriend had a hand in making it "It looks awesome, Caroline," you smiled, watching as she lit the candles.
"Make a wish," The blonde clapped, bouncing on her feet watching you intently, "and a real one now one of those 'I don't need a wish I have you' wishes you made last year" laughing at the memory and Caroline stern face you closed your eye making a wish.
Blowing out the candles, you pulled Caroline closer to you as she bit her lip. "You are amazing, Care Bear, thank you," You whispered, rubbing your nose gently against hers as she finally relaxes against you.
"Happy Birthday," She whispered back as the two of you kissed softly.
Standing in the middle of the Salvatore's kitchen after a failed party attempt wasn't exactly how you thought your birthday would go, but spending it with Caroline was definitely what you wanted.
