Though the TV studio room had air-conditioning I was still sweating . My boyfriend , Nishant was sitting beside me smiling nervously. The TV studio crew were preparing to go live, the News host, Sheetal joined us.

Sheetal greeted us with a sweet smile " Hi, Hope you are comfortable. We will be starting in few minutes."

We nodded and looked at each other nervously.

Sheetal started the interview.  "Preetika, you can share your story with our viewers."  She said with a sympathetic smile.

I looked towards Nishant, he held my hand and smiled.

"My name is Preetika . I lived my whole life in Sunshine Home Orphanage . I don't remember much about my parents or my childhood as I had lost my parents when I was a toddler." I took a pause. Took a deep breath.

"  They died in a plane crash and as non of my relatives were ready to care for me , I was send to this Orphanage. As far as I remember my life at Sunshine Home as been good, they focused on our education and our over all wellbeing. I never went out our premises as everything we needed was inside the building."

Sheetal asked " How did you spend your days there?

" During childhood , different tutors would come and home school us and I would spend other part of the day playing with my friends.

After reaching 18 yrs of age , we were assigned small part time jobs which ranged from baby sitting the toddlers , working in library and helping in the Mess Kitchen. After completing our education we apply for jobs and those who get selected leave to lead a new life. Many people stayed behind to help others like us."

Sheetal asked " So you had permission to leave?".

I nodded " We were told that we had choice but I never saw anyone leaving without permission from seniors. I was happy with my life there but I always wanted to go out and live my life my way. I turned 20 but didn't get selected for any job but many of my fellow housemates had left . I didn't wanted to leave without job and proper plan that's why I stayed back."

She asked "Can you tell us about the staff of your orphanage? "

I said " All our care takers took good care of our needs but they never got emotional involved with us.  I can't say that we were neglected in any other way but the emotional connection was missing. "

Sheetal after checking her notes asked " You said many people didn't leave and stayed back."

" Yes... Many people like me who couldn't get a proper job opportunity ,they stayed back at  Sunshine home and helped others like us or took up a job at the premises." I answered.
