man this took a while-

I kid you not, I was brain dead when I made this because I—for some reason—have a hard time writing Childe. EVEN IF I AM ENGAGED IN HIS CHARACTER- HE'S VERY INTERESTING. So have a long fanfic, where they hop place to place. After this fic, will either be a Christmas themed one from the suggestions OR a regular one. Stay tuned and do leave a comment, it makes me a whole lot happy seeing you  guys like the works uwu

While rock stays hard, the mountain shall never fail; while the Millelith stands guard, evil shall never prevail.

Those words were gospel to the entire army of Milleliths in Liyue. You, and the rest of the other soldiers, were meant to serve. And you were part of that hive mind mentality.

You grew up knowing full well that you had no talent whatsoever. Nothing you did was exceptionally eye-catching or noteworthy, so you stuck to going with the flow and doing whatever you were told. And before you were even of legal age, you were given a choice. The choice to join the Millelith. For several generations, your family—and several other families before that—had served as Milleliths under the Liyue Qixing. Your grandmother, grandfather, mother and father were loyal soldiers to Liyue and wanted you to be part of the running lineage, and in their words, they said, 'What better honor than to serve the city you grew up in?'

So, you did as you were destined to and you followed orders even before you joined the army. You trained for the Milleliths.

Your aptitude for following orders to a tee never went unnoticed by your father, and for some reason, he got worried. He expressed his unease by telling you, "Even if you're bound to our cause, you still have a choice: Make something of yourself without this whole family tradition, I wouldn't mind."

But, you declined his offer to change your mind. If the path was laid out for you, you just had to walk down it. That was just in your nature to do so and you couldn't quite explain why you had no sense of free-will, you simply liked doing what you were told. It was easier that way.

Now, despite being known as the son/daughter of the sergeant, you were never given special credentials or privileges. Of course, you didn't mind it. The system of equality was better that way, and you were treated just like everyone else. Or at least, that's what you thought when you first started out.

It seemed that instead of being careful around you, the other guards poked fun at your relations to the sergeant. If you had a coin for every time you'd hear concerning rumors about you as you pass by a group of Millelith, you'd rival the Tianquan herself in wealth. If you could find your confidence in that weak-willed heart of yours, you'd tell them to stop. But, afraid that it might tarnish your already soiled reputation, you never dared to speak against it, nor are you willing to ever tell your problems to your family.

You let out a tired sigh, finishing up on your final lap of patrol around the Yujing Terrace. The moon was starting to dip out of the horizon and the sky was gently shifting to a brighter hue of orange against the purples. It was the beginning of a quiet morning.

You grip tight on your spear's handle and make your way up the stairs again for the fiftieth time today, you were surprised at how quick your knees were able to adapt to the first few months of pain going up and down these stairs, though, it's not an unpleasant surprise. This way, you managed to carry out your menial task without complaint. And speaking of complaining...

"Is he taking a break again...?" Going farther up said stairs, your gaze lands on Yikuo. The half-assed Millelith who acts like he deserves a break. He was relaxing by his usual spot up a few more stairs next to a waterfall that gently rushed down to a small pool of water. You didn't blame him for picking such a nice place to relax in. Though, that doesn't excuse his behavior.
