Attempting to squeeze his eyes more shut then they already were, Midoriya tried to ignore his brutal headache and figure out what was happening. He knew that hangovers were a thing, but he was beginning to think that what he drank was no ordinary drink.
Especially since he couldn't move.
He forced his eyes open to find himself in a room lit with what seemed to be studio lights. There was a camera sitting atop a tripod at one side of the room. His hands were bound behind him, and his ankles were tied together as well. This was... how did this happen? What happened to Shaggy!?
Panic immediately gripped him as he realized just what kind of situation he was in. He had no idea where he was; no one knew where he was. Someone had cameras trained on him, and Shaggy wasn't in sight. Was he roofied? He had heard of that happening, but he thought that only happened to girls. But... wait... if he was roofied, the only one who could've done it was...
The camera was turned on and the cap taken off the lens, a pair of brown cowboy boots stepping into view, "Are we rolling?" A moment of silence followed before the man clapped his hands together, "Excellent, and our participant is awake too."
Midoriya's eyes traveled up denim jeans to a yellow shirt and cowhide vest and finally to the face of a hero he could barely recollect, "Woody?"
"Ah, you actually recognize me?" The man took a knee next to him, his smile not being able to hide the psychotic angle of his gaze, "How interesting."
"What is this? Where am I?" Midoriya tried to lift his face up, but the man only ignored him and stood.
"People of the world, this is a public service announcement on behalf of all heroes to tell you that you are all manipulative, parasitic ingrates." Woody began.
"What-!?" the boy tried to speak before a boot was suddenly on the back of his head, smashing his face into the concrete floor.
"Maybe a 'howdy partner' would have been a better opener," the man admitted with an almost mocking tip of the hat, "but that doesn't change the fact that every single one of you watching this very broadcast are a part of the problem."
The boot left the boy's head as the man began to pace, "And that problem is pervasive throughout our society, seeped into the very fabric of our social lives." the paused as he faced the camera, "Why is it that heroes have become mere celebrities in the eye of the public? No longer appreciated for the efforts that we expend to save the average man's life, a hero will find himself falling out of favor as soon as he is not 'marketable' enough."
The pacing began once again as the man's tone grew sharper, "As soon as some 'shiny, new model' of hero comes out, all of us classics fall to the wayside with 'cult' fandoms, and, suddenly, we aren't able to make a living anymore. The agencies boot us out for the new heroes, and where have we to go then? We go to hero schools to become heroes, but they teach us nothing else, so once that line of work ends we are left jobless."
"But who's to say that the job itself is even worth it." his pacing paused again, gesturing with his hands as he mused, "Why are we treated like we're supposed to be these perfect beings put up on pedestals? The strongest, the smartest, the quickest, the... sexiest." he said the last word with a level of disgust, "We are mere people like any other. The only differences between us and the common man is our quirks and our drive to be heroes. Where in that do we become icons? Where in that do people suddenly expect us to never make mistakes? To never feel fear? To not need to support ourselves and our families? To not have our own needs?"
Midoriya was utterly confused and terrified. Woody's mannerisms carried with them an almost manic, unstable nature, and, despite the calm, collected, surprisingly eloquent way he spoke and gestured, there was an undeniable fury hidden beneath waiting to be released. He needed to escape.
