four months later
"will you miss that place?" Cary asked, sipping up his rucksack quickly. I shrug.
"how could someone miss middle school? I miss elementary. Life was easy back then" I reply, smiling and hauling my rucksack onto my back. the last day of middle school. i suppose I would miss it, but hardly. Who could miss algebra? no one.
"guys, we have three months to make the movie. We've got to get it in before the deadline!" Charles quickly spat, interrupting me and Cary's short conversation. Martin and Preston exchanged glances. We'd been working on this movie ever since mom died. Martin was really the only main actor. Apart from Charles' little brother.
"We need someone to play the wife"I said, nodding towards Charles. Charles taps the side of his nose.
"in silent reading, I asked Alice dainard" He said, clearly impressed with himself.
"you actually asked Alice Dainard?" I laugh, not believing him.
Charles nods.
"Charles, it's silent reading, you aren't supposed to speak" Martin said, looking at me. I used to always talk in silent reading. I don't even know why the teachers called it silent reading.
"C'mon Smartin, not like you've never talked in silent reading" I said, smiling
He hates the nickname Smartin.
"Don't call me that!" He snaps back, just as we head over towards the shop. I pull out five dollars and look at Cary. It was Cary who created martins nickname, and we'd used it ever since the last year of elementary.
"Guys, more to the point!" Charles said, frustrated.
"We're filming at the railway station"
"wha-"
"shut up!"
"Alice dainard is driving" Charles finally said, pushing open the door. I look at him, then smile. When we get in the shop, I walk over to the twizzelers. I love them they were moms favourite sweets.
when I arrive home, I walk into my room, dad's not home yet.
I drop my rucksack onto the floor and head over to Charles's house. His little brother opens the door and lest me in. Their house is basically my second home. "Hey Joe!" Charles mother calls from the kitchen.
"Hi" I reply.
"Charles's in his room, messing around with that camera of his"
I nod and go straight to his room. "We meet at midnight" Charles says, without even saying hello.
"Oh yes Charles, thanks. I did have a pleasant day" I say sarcastically, before sitting in the edge of his bed.
We begun to converse about the new scenes in the film, when Charles leads me onto the subject about makeup.
"You do it as best as you can" he tells me
"Charles! Dinner!"
"Okay mom!" Charles yells
"You bring out Alice's cheek bon-"
"Charles!"
"Yes! I'm coming!
"Anyway, you have to highlight the ey-"
"Yeah, I know"
"Charles!"
"For gods sake mom!" Charles yells, pulling me by the wrist to the kitchen.
"Your welcome to stay for dinner hunnie" Charles' mom says, smiling at me. I shake my head, silent declining,
"Dad's cooking dinner" I roomy, even though I know this is a lie. I think Charlie's dad thinks I'm lying, as he then says
"Your welcome here anytime Joe, you know that?"
"Yes"
"Good"
I start to walk towards the door, when Charles whispers
"Midnight"
When I get home, I pull out a lump of cheese and some bread. I slowly begin to cut the cheese and butter the breed, just as dad comes home
"Okay?" He asks
I nod and eat the cheese in my hands.
When midnight finally comes, I was sleeping on my bed. I had set my alarm and set my makeup things on the foot of my bed.
I run to the window nd check if Charles is there like he said he would be. I can see his silhouette. I pull up the window and drag my makeup box towards him. "Gimme a hand!" I whisper, as Charles makes his way towards me.
He lifts the box and I slide through the window.
"Thanks"
"Let's wait for the others" he says, before sitting at the curb of the street.
