"This is it?"

"Be careful!"

Harry pushed Josie out of the way when it seemed she walked too close to some cement that had just been made to make the kitchen counters. He looked up at her with such a scandalous look that it had her giggling even though she knew how serious Harry and his parents were about all of this. Harry had just taken her to a house his parents had designed, something he had talked about for weeks now and she was getting proper tired of just hearing about it and him not showing her what this was all about. Today though, Harry finally called her and asked her what she was up to, and since it was the summer holidays, Josie had nothing on her plate. She wasn't leaving for Brazil for another week, so she had tons of times to do whatever she wanted with Harry.

His parents were outside talking to the construction manager, while Harry and Josie were taking a peek inside, both eager to see how far along they were. The house was nearly finished, they only had a few details left before they let the actual owners move back in. They had been working on this house for a while now, and though Josie had no idea how things like this worked, it had to have been a bit too long. She guessed that was what the adults were talking about. But since it did not regard her, she did not bother listening in.

"We can't ruin anything," Harry said, eyes wide as he met Josie's. "If we fuck any of these counter tops up, I won't hear the end of it until I'm, like, 70."

Josie rolled her eyes. "Fucking them up will give then a bit of a rustic feeling, though, won't they?"

"That's not the style of the house, Josie."

"And what's that?"

"Contemporary, bordering on minimalism. It's supposed to be simple with neutral colours that won't overwhelm or stimulate too much."

Josie made a snoring sound before she walked on, looking closed at the cupboards of the kitchen that they were currently in. She could practically see Harry rolling his eyes at her and then chuckling to himself as she turned her back to him and started looking around. It was just as Harry had described it. There were no stark colours, no colours, shapes, or features that would cause anyone a migraine, but it also wasn't exciting. Josie knew that Harry's parents had worked and designed according to what their clients desired, but it had to be boring to do something like this for someone who just want what everyone else have. Surely it had to be more fun to have more creative liberation, to do something interesting and make something completely new.
