Normally on a Saturday night, I would find myself on the floor of Tommy's room, playing a card game or showing each other tiktoks or streaming with him. I found today, though, that Tommy had just finished a stream today without me. Some long text he had sent me, about a war on his friend's server. I didn't really pay attention to much of that, but it was nice to see he had fun, I assume.

Tommy 😤
yeah i just finished streaming like an hour ago

does that mean I can come over 🥰🥰

Tommy 😤
no i gotta edit

edit what.

Tommy 😤
a youtube video

ok ill be over in five

Tommy 😤
what? no i just said

dude im like halfway there already 🙄

Clicking send on that last message and shutting off my phone, I decided I would take my car to Tommy's house. It was the weekend; why would I wait for something as stupid as this editing thing he had going on?

I slid a beanie and a jacket onto myself while I made my exit from the house, shouting a simple 'bye' at my mom from outside. My car was parked on the edge of the sidewalk, so I went through the yard and around to the driver's seat.

I heard a ding from the phone that was in my pocket, but I didn't bother to check it, reserving my focus for starting the engine and turning on the heater. Even though I was only outside for a few seconds, I felt the cold air linger on my skin, almost making it seem like I was still out there. I placed my hands on the wheel, navigating the car out of the neighborhood.

Tommy didn't live far, but it was far enough that I still had to wait through a few red lights. While stuck at one, I decided to finally read his text message.

Tommy 😤
if i see your face standing at my doorframe im going to kick you

at a red light 🤪

Tommy 😤
k

I smiled at his one-lettered response, almost stifling a laugh. The light in front of me turned green, only moments before I reached for the gas and continued to his house.

When I had actually reached the place, I parked my car across the street, seeing that another one was blocking the space near the driveway. I made the significantly longer walk across the street and found myself knocking on his door moments later.

Many seconds passed, before I knocked again.

Nothing. He should be here.

hey lemme in :(

Tommy 😤
you're actually here?

yeah?

Tommy 😤
what would happen if i left you in the cold

i would freeze :(

Tommy didn't respond, which left me suspicious until I heard the door unlocking. A swooshing sound was made as it opened, revealing the man himself.

"You're stupid." He greeted me with a monotone expression.

"Okay," I replied, inviting myself inside. I took off my jacket, leaving it on the couch before I followed him to his room. I don't think his mom even saw me, to be honest.

I laid myself on his bed comfortably, checking my phone again while he sat at his desk, with a more serious walk than usual.

"What're you up to?"

"The editing! For the video!"

"Right, and tell me about the stream again?"

"We had a war, Wilbur blew up everything, George built a house, Schlatt died and Toby became president of L'manburg."

"Ooh, can I see the house?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Because I'm editing."

Giving up, I sat up on the bed, pondering his room for the millionth time. I usually only did this when he was getting snacks, but I sat in comfortable silence this time while he clicked away at some editing program.

I had known Tommy for a couple of years; we became friends at school when I had moved from the United States. He usually had lots of energy, sometimes even annoying me - I wonder why the roles were reversed today. Maybe he was tired.

"Okay, okay." I stood up, tossing my phone somewhere and greeting him at his desk. "I'll give you a compromise. Ten more minutes of... whatever you're doing, then I'm taking you to the park."

"The park? It's like, twenty degrees!"

"Do you think it will snow? We can build a snowman."

"I'm not going with you, y/n."

"Too late!"

He shook his head, his hair slightly bouncing as he gave a look of disapproval. I smiled at him while looking at the monitor in front of us. It displayed a minecraft video, and when he clicked play it featured him shouting angrily at another player; probably someone I knew.

When the ten minutes was up, and I had gotten bored of being on Tiktok, I jumped up and took his arm in my hand, pulling him out of the chair he had obviously been in for hours by the look of it. "Get dressed," I said, pushing the chair into his desk and leaving the room, closing the door behind me before I could hear his protest.

He came out a few minutes later dressed in winter clothes; a jacket, jeans, and a beanie that pushed his hair against his forehead. I smiled in success, knowing that even if he didn't want to admit it, he was probably really tired of editing.

The rest of the day was filled with snowman-making, freezing, and filling each other with smiles and laughter, making memories that I would remember. At the end of the day, I went home and made hot chocolate, accidentally spilling some on Tommy, only for him to get slightly mad.

He could always upload tomorrow.
