Recap:

Our lips are just about to meet, when King For A Day begins blaring above us and my eyes snap open.

"Perfect timing." I mumble and stand up, reaching into my bunk to grab my phone.

"Vic would be proud." Andy says, standing up as well and shoving his hands into his pockets.

I don't check the number, instead sliding to answer.

"What?" I grumble, glancing up at Andy who's smiling down at me.

"Ariel?" Even though it's been years since I've heard that voice, I immediately know who it is and thousands of memories come flooding back to me, enough to almost knock me down.

Andy must have seen my facial expression because his becomes mixed with worry and anger for some reason.

"Dad?" I whisper.

My hands are shaking violently and I'm barely holding my phone next to my ear as my father chuckles on the other end.

Andy's eyebrows shoot up in surprise and I glance at him before rushing down the hallway and into the music room, closing the door behind me and locking it.

Someone must have cleaned up in here because there are no traces of Andy's tantrum from the other day.

I sit on the black bean bag and sink in.

"Hey baby girl." He sounds cheerful and tears begin forming around my eyes, immediately spilling over and flooding down my cheeks.

"H-how did you get my number?" I say quietly, still not fully comprehending that my father actually called me because he wanted to speak to me.

I push a piece of hair behind my ear and start biting on my fingernails.

"Your mom gave it to me." He responds in his deep husky voice and my chest collapses in on itself.

"You talked to mom?" More tears come rolling down my cheeks as I speak and I bite my lip.

"Yes. She agreed with me that we need to communicate with each other more." Why didn't she tell me? Why would she just let him spring this surprise on me?

"She also told me that you're on tour with a band on some kind of big tour this summer." He says, trying to break the ice and let the conversation become less uncomfortable.

"I- yea I am. I'm the photographer." I sniffle a little bit but he doesn't seem notice. Or he doesn't want to ask.

"I called you a few times earlier, I'm not sure if you got them." He says just as someone knocks at the door.

"Yea, I was at a show sorry." I stand up quickly and open the door to see Andy, who is staring at me questionly. I wave him away and close the door again.

"If you're going to have a cellphone you should keep it on you." He chastises me like he has the right to play a father figure after all these years.

"I was working." I say in a monotone.

"Anyways, your mom said you're going to Phoenix next. We should get some food." He replies and I roll my eyes.

"Uhm yea sure. I'll probably be able to be there in the morning. Anytime before 2." I run my fingers through my hair as he gives me the information to a diner that I quickly scribble down on a piece of paper.
