El and Max were currently in the cabin, sitting on the couch and watching TV with a huge bowl of popcorn in their laps, chuckling every time their hands touched when they reached out to take some. It was a late evening and both were exhausted after spending an entire day outside with the rest of the party. They were excited to get some alone time with each other and since Hopper had an emergency at the station and had to stay there overnight, the girls were left alone. And they didn't mind at all. El was sitting on the couch with her knees close to her chest and her arm wrapped around Max's shoulders while the redhead was pressed to her side as close as possible while her eyes were slowly closing. The heat of her girlfriend's body next to her was making her even sleepier. She felt so much better than in her own house. Felt safe. She simply loved spending time with the brunette. And while El was still munching on popcorn, she noticed light snores coming from the other girl. She chuckled and placed her hand on Max's shoulder, shaking it lightly. The girl opened her eyes with a little yawn and looked up at her with tired but loving eyes.

~ "Hm?"

~ "Wanna go to bed? It's late." El said, subconsciously rubbing Max's shoulder with her thumb.

~ "But I'm comfy heeeere." Max opposed, tightening her arms around El's body.

~ "You're gonna be sore in the morning if you stay like this all night."

~ "Um...okay. But you're going with me...right?" Max replied drowsily, looking up at El, who just nodded and leaned down to kiss Max's forehead. They both got up and El turned off the TV before they headed to her room, the redhead literally jumping on the bed, followed by her girlfriend. The room was slightly lit up with a lamp that was standing on the bedside table. The girls laid down, El draping a blanket over their bodies before turning to Max with a soft smile.

~ "Thank you for agreeing to stay overnight. I would probably bore myself to sleep three hours ago if you weren't here." El said, moving her hand up a bit to intertwine her fingers with Max's. The redhead chuckled, her eyes not leaving the girl in front of her.

~ "No need to thank me Ellie. I love being with you. Plus, my douche of a brother is really making it hard for me not to want to stay out of the house." Max shrugged a bit, making El frown in concern.

~ "Did something happen again?" El asked gently, her eyebrows still scrunched.

~ "There's always something happening, Ellie...but let's not worry about that now. Okay? We're here. Together. Just us. And I want to enjoy it 'till it lasts." Max whispered, her voice coloured with her smile. El nodded.

~ "Okay...just...promise me that if something serious happens, you'll tell me?" The brunette was worried. She knew that Max doesn't have much of a happy family. That's why she was spending as much time as possible with her and invited her for sleepovers often. She wanted to keep her safe. When Max spent more than a week at the Mayfield/Hargrove house, El noticed that her mood was worse and worse every day. Once it got so bad the two girls fought. Luckily, El understood that it's hard on Max and forgave her for lashing out like she did. That was a long time ago though. Two months to be exact. They were over it, not letting anything come in between them from that day. They cared about each other too much to let that happen again.

~ "...I will. I promise." Max said, knowing that El held promises close. The brunette nodded, placing her palm on the other girl's cheek and leaning closer to press her lips on her's gently to which Max responded with a smile and started kissing back. When both girls felt their lungs were begging for some air, they pulled apart, catching their breaths.
